Chip and Joanna Gaines Welcome Baby No. 5! Every Detail We Know About Their New Son
Chip and Joanna Gaines are now parents of five. On Sunday, June 24, 2018, Joanna shared their big announcement to Instagram — and their family clearly couldn’t be happier. The newest addition to the Gaines family is a baby boy named Crew Gaines.
Joanna revealed in her Instagram post that Crew had arrived two and a half weeks early, which she called “fitting.” She wrote, “Our baby boy, Crew Gaines, is here and we couldn’t be more in love. He made an unexpected (and speedy) entrance into the world two and a half weeks early – which is fitting given he was a sweet surprise from day one.” She added, “Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. We are so grateful.”
We also love the sweet moment she shared from a friend, who captured all four of the older Gaines kids waiting with their ears against their hospital room door. Joanna wrote, “One of my favorite pics a friend showed me after Crew was born. They couldn’t wait to meet their new baby brother.”
The Gaineses’ newest bundle of joy is receiving tons of love already. Joanna posted yet another loving photo onto Instagram, in which Crew is cuddled up on her chest. She simply wrote, “Cuddle bug,” along with a heart-eyes emoji.
Chip made sure to provide an update on Crew’s birth with his Twitter followers, too. He shared in his social media post, “And then there were 5.. The Gaines crew is now 1 stronger! 10 beautiful toes and 10 beautiful fingers all accounted for, and big momma is doing great! #blessedBeyondBelief.”
The name “Crew” came as a surprise to fans of the former Fixer Upper couple, as the rest of the male Gaines’ kids names start with a D (Drake, 13, and Duke, 9). Similarly, their girls’ names both start with the letter E (Ella, 12, and Emmie, 8).
According to People, Crew only came into existence as a name in 1995. As Pamela Redmond Satran of Nameberry reported, “Crew is a stylish word name that broke into the U.S. top 1,000 in 2010. It stands at No. 712 now, with 339 baby boys given the name last year — and with more celebrity visibility, it’s primed to climb even higher.”
Luckily for the Gaineses, they’re already experts at this whole “parenting” thing. Joanna shared in a May 2018 People cover story, “Chip is the best swaddler.” She added, “He’s always been able to rock our babies to sleep. He’s like, ‘I’m going to be holding the baby the entire time!’”
Diaper duty, however, is one aspect of parenting that Chip and Joanna are a bit rusty on. “We need to figure that one out again,” Joanna told People. “I don’t even remember, but I do remember the blowouts and I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh!’ I’ve gotta get my stuff together. It’s coming!”
While Joanna surprised fans by giving birth to Crew at 40, she admitted that the Gaines family still might not be done growing. She told People, “I joke with my friends that I’m going to be that 45-year-old who’s pregnant.” She added, “Chip is such a kid at heart and we both love a big family. I’m open to whatever. I’m just having fun with it.”
