Ask Beyoncé fans who the new performer is to watch out for and many will tell you it’s her protégée, Chlöe. Formerly of Chloe x Halle, the singer spent more than half of her life performing alongside her sister before their current success. They caught the attention of Ellen DeGeneres early on and were briefly signed to the talk show host’s record label.

They were signed to Ellen DeGeneres’ record label shortly after appearing on her talk show

The talented sisters rose to fame by performing covers of their favorite songs on YouTube. A video of them performing Beyoncé’s “Best Thing I Never Had” garnered them the most attention at that time and they caught the producers of DeGeneres’ show by surprise. Chlöe says they received an email from DeGeneres’ team to invite them onto the show. They performed live and got a bigger surprise than they bargained for when DeGeneres offered them a record contract.

“Fun fact: she had some label and she put us on hold for like six months and signed us. And then after the six months, nothing happened. But it was OK, because Beyoncé [later signed us],” the singer revealed during a recent interview on The Terrell Show. “That was like the best experience and we ended up going on her show a second time and it was really cool. We were like, ‘Wow, we can make something out of music and singing, so that was really crazy.”

Their first appearance on Ellen was in 2012. At the time, they were 11 and 13. They were soon signed to Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment company for a reported $1 million contract and six albums. As a duo, they have multiple Grammy nominations and have performed on tours around the world.

Chlöe is now embarking on a solo career, something she initially didn’t plan to do this soon

The group released two albums together before both began taking on solo projects. They continue to perform together for special events and support one another on their solo efforts. While solo careers were always the plan, life’s circumstances sped up the process for them.

Chlöe Bailey Was ‘Frustrated’ Before Writing ‘Have Mercy’

“My sister got the role of Ariel [in The Little Mermaid] and I’m so proud of her,” Chlöe explained in an interview with Tamron Hall. “And with that, she had to go to London for about eight months and you know, it almost turned into two years because of the pandemic. So with that, we were separated and it was really hard for the both of us. We had separation anxiety almost.” in order to feed her creativity, she began recording her own music.

Despite her itch to create, she was hesitant to do things on her own. “I was afraid that people wouldn’t even be interested in me without my sister,” she said in an interview with Buzz Feed. “And I was doubting my own voice and sound and all that. I also had separation anxiety, but I had to remember that my sister and I are going through very similar experiences separately, but at the same time, if that makes sense. We just had to remind ourselves that we are special together, but also special apart. And we’ll always have each other’s back.”
