Chris Evans Is Not the Only star of ‘Fantastic Four’ That Marvel Reportedly Wants Back for ‘Doctor Strange 2’
In recent weeks, rumors have been flying that Chris Evans could be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Evans seemingly debunked the initial story that claimed he was in talks to appear in a new Marvel project.
But the rumors haven’t stopped. Instead, they’ve gotten even wilder. There’s even a report that Marvel wants one of Evans’ Fantastic Four co-stars to appear alongside him in Doctor Strange 2.
Chris Evans said his return to the MCU was ‘news to me’
When the first reports surfaced in mid-January that Evans was in talks to reprise his role as Captain America in upcoming Marvel projects, the actor took to Twitter to debunk the claim.
“News to me,” Evans wrote along with a shrugging emoji.
A deal was in the works that would see him return as Steve Rogers/Captain America. The deal was supposedly for Evans to make smaller appearances in various MCU films instead of making another solo flick.
In response to Evans’ tweet, many fans made it clear that they wanted to see the actor put on the suit again. Some thought that the actor was playing coy in order to keep his return a surprise.
Among the responses, Jamie Lee Curtis – who played Evans’ mom in Knives Out – asked if she could play his mom in every movie. Evans told her that it was “going in the contracts.”
Could Chris Evans play two different characters in ‘Doctor Strange 2’?
Despite Evans’ denial of his return to the MCU, the rumors kept coming. By late January, there were claims that Evans could be playing not one, but two characters in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
According to Giant Freakin Robot, they have a trusted source who claims that Marvel wants Evans to play both an evil version of Captain America and the Human Torch in the upcoming sequel.
As fans know, Evans starred as Johnny Storm/the Human Torch back in 2005’s Fantastic Four. Three whole years before the official start of the MCU. It could be possible that Marvel wants to acknowledge the fact that Evans has played two different characters. And they could do it in a really fun way.
But that’s not all. There’s also a rumor that Evans isn’t the only one from that Fantastic Four flick that Marvel wants in the Doctor Strange sequel.
Could Jessica Alba make her official MCU debut in ‘Doctor Strange 2’?
Jessica Alba played Sue Storm/the Invisible Woman alongside Evans in 2005’s Fantastic Four. As well as the 2007 sequel Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Now, Giant Freakin Robot is reporting that Marvel wants her to reprise the role in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
Since those two Fantastic Four films weren’t technically part of the MCU, this would be Alba’s official debut. Alba has yet to make a deal with Marvel, so the cameo isn’t a sure thing. However, both the Evans rumor and the Alba rumor came from a source who has been right in the past.
Previously, the source revealed that Don Cheadle would be appearing as War Machine in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The source was also correct when they revealed Josh Brolin would return to the MCU as Thanos.
Of course, these rumors should still be taken with a grain of salt. However, now that the multiverse is busting wide open, it’s safe to say that nothing is off the table when it comes to the future of the MCU.
Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled to hit theaters on March 25, 2022.
