Chris Pratt’s Mother-In-Law Maria Shriver Defends Him Amid Backlash to His Instagram Post
Thanks to social media, it is not unusual for celebrities to unexpectedly get criticized for seemingly-innocent posts. Actor Chris Pratt recently experienced this when he made an Instagram post about his wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger.
However, Pratt’s mother-in-law, Maria Shriver, showed where she stands amid the drama by coming to the actor’s defense.
Chris Pratt received criticism after praising Katherine Schwarzenegger
On Nov. 3, Pratt shared a post on Instagram expressing love for Schwarzenegger. In the photo, Pratt is looking straight at the camera while Schwarzenegger is gazing at him.
“Guys. For real. Look how she’s looking at me! I mean. Find you somebody that looks at you like that!! You know!?” Pratt wrote in the caption. “We met in church. She’s given me an amazing life, a gorgeous healthy daughter, she chews so loudly that sometimes I put in my ear buds to drown it out, but that’s love!”
He continued, “She helps me with everything. In return, periodically, I open a jar of pickles. That’s the trade.”
He ended the post by writing, “It’s her birthday in about 6 weeks. So if I don’t get her anything, I’ll tell her to look back on this post. Love you honey.” Pratt also added three red hearts.
However, many people on social media lashed out at Pratt because of the post. According to Page Six, some fans interpreted the move as a diss toward his ex-wife Anna Faris and their son, Jack. The latter has famously dealt with several health issues, including cerebral hemorrhage at birth. Other critics took issue with Pratt’s claim that his wife helps him “with everything,” while he only helps her “open a jar of pickles.”
Maria Shriver defended Chris Pratt with a comment
Shriver recently wrote a comment on Pratt’s Instagram post to defend him.
“I want to remind you today what a good man you are what a great father you are to Jack and Lyla what a great husband you are to Katherine what a great son in law you are to me and what a great sense of humor you have!!” Shriver said.
She added, “I love you Chris keep being your wonderful self rise above the noise your kids love your family loves you your wife loves you what a beautiful life I’m proud of you xo.”
Chris Pratt reportedly felt ‘upset’ and ‘depressed’ amid the controversy
After his Instagram post blew up, Pratt took to Instagram Story to share that he had not been feeling well. However, he did not specify that it was because of the backlash.
“I went to bed last night really kind of upset and depressed,” the actor said (via Yahoo!), “and I woke up feeling crappy and I didn’t want to work out.”
Pratt shared that he managed to find strength in his faith and exercising.
“I knew that if I put on my Christian music playlist, and I got out of the woods and ran that I’d feel better, but I just didn’t want to,” Pratt explained, “and I did it anyways and, gosh, was I right. It felt amazing.”
