Chris Rock Has a New Girlfriend – Who Is Carmen Ejogo?
Chris Rock split from his girlfriend of four years, Megalyn Echikunwoke, less than a year ago. The comedian is reportedly no longer living a bachelor’s lifestyle and is now dating another fellow actor and singer, Carmen Ejogo. Rock was previously married for 18 years and is a father to two teenage daughters.
Chris Rock was previously married and also in a longtime relationship with Megalyn Echikunwoke
Rock married philanthropist Malaak Compton in 1996. The two share two daughters and split in 2016, resulting in a nasty court battle. Rock says the divorce left him unwilling to ever marry again, once joking:
“Would I ever get married again? Not if it would cure AIDS,” he said. “I had to pay for a lawyer to divorce me. That’s like hiring a hitman to kill you. I had to go through a custody fight for my kids. Just to see my kids, man. You don’t want to be a man in family court. You don’t want to be a black man in any court.”
The divorce however did not stop Rock from falling in love again. He began dating actor Echikunwoke in 2016. He spoke openly about his love for her and his admiration for her independence. “She’s got her own dough, it’s amazing,” he told Rolling Stone in 2017.
After they began dating, Echikunwoke moved into Rock’s New Jersey home. She was equally as in love with Rock, telling People, “What can I say? I have a boyfriend. He’s a comedian, funny, really wonderful. He’s a very dreamy guy, and I’m a lucky girl.”
Sadly, the two split in late 2019, with a source revealing to Page Six that Rock’s hesitation to marry again as the cause.
Chris Rock is reportedly dating actor Carmen Ejogo
Rock isn’t letting heartbreak slow him down in the love department. According to The Jasmine Brand, Rock and Ejogo were recently seen together having lunch in Malibu, California. They were also spotted at dinner in New York in September 2019, not too long after his split from Echikunwoke.
Ejogo’s entertainment career began as host of a Saturday Disney morning show in 1993 before her transition to acting. Some of her film credits include Love’s Labour’s Lost, What’s the Worst That Could Happen?, Away We Go, Sparkle, and Alex Cross.
Her portrayal of civil rights activist Coretta Scott King in two films has garnered her much praise. Ejogo starred as King in Boycott and the Oscar-winning film Selma.
She’s also a talented singer, beginning her music career in the early 90s. She wrote and sang lead vocals on the song “Candles” by DJ Alex Reece. She also sang for the film Love’s Labour’s Lost. For her role in Sparkle, she appears on four songs of the film’s soundtrack
Like Rock, Ejogo has also been married previously. She was briefly married to music artist Tricky. In 2000, she married actor Jeffrey Wright, whom she met while filming Boycott. They have two children together.
