Chris Rock’s Mansion Is Far Away From Hollywood
Hollywood is still buzzing after that “slap heard ’round the world” in which Will Smith smacked Chris Rock following a joke about the actor’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, during the Academy Awards. But Rock doesn’t have to listen to the ongoing noise in Tinseltown because he lives about 3,000 miles away.
Here are the details about the mansion where Rock resides.
The slap occurred just before the award for Best Documentary Feature was handed out
It’s almost impossible to have not seen or heard about Smith marching up on stage and smacking Rock during the 94th Academy Awards.
Before Rock presented the award for Best Documentary Feature, the comedian made a G.I. Jane joke about Pinkett Smith, who has alopecia. Her husband laughed at first but then surprised everyone by getting out of his seat to slap Rock.
Following the incident, Rock kept his composure and presented Summer Of Soul with the Oscar. The film’s producer, Joseph Patel later condemned Smith for his actions in a now-deleted tweet writing: “I think what Will did was selfish. It robbed the category of its moment. It robbed the other excellent and amazing films of their moment to be acknowledged in what was a STRONG year for docs. And it robbed Summer Of Soul and our team of our moment. Of a loud, enthusiastic cheer for a celebrated film.”
Details on Chris Rock’s New Jersey mansion
While Hollywood can’t stop talking about what occurred, Rock has been busy touring. He’s in the midst of his latest stand-up tour and since the slap, ticket sales for his show have soared. So Rock will be on the road for a while now, but some fans are wondering where the Saturday Night Live alum actually calls home. Well turns out it’s nowhere near Hollywood, where so many others famous faces reside.
For more than two decades, Rock has lived in the suburbs of New Jersey. In 2001, the Grown Ups actor purchased a newly-built, colonial-style estate in the upscale Alpine borough of Bergen County. The home spans more than 10,000 square feet and boasts four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and sits on more than two acres of land. Following his divorce from Malaak Compton-Rock in 2016, the comic moved within the same neighborhood to remain close to his daughters Lola and Zahra. His family home remains in his name on public records.
Rock also owned a townhome in Brooklyn for several years. It was a property he mostly rented out, and in 2017, he decided to sell it for $3.35 million.
Rock learned to swim recently so he can enjoy the pool
One amenity that many homes in the Alpine area have is a pool, but that’s something Rock had never used.
That’s because the star didn’t know how to swim. But in a 2020 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Rock revealed that he finally learned how to swim at the age of 55, and now it’s part of his fitness regime.
“Do you know how f***ing hard it is for a grownup to learn how to swim? You’ve got to not be scared to die,” Rock told THR. “The other day, this guy says to me, ‘OK, you’re going to dive into the deep end and swim to the other side,’ and I’m like, ‘Are you f***ing crazy?’ But then I dove into the deep end and I swam to the other side, and it’s a metaphor for what I’ve been trying to do during this time.”
