Chris Stapleton Got ‘Dad Points’ by Putting His Daughter on the Phone With Adele
Adele is a longtime fan of country singer, Chris Stapleton. But when she called to speak with him about their collaboration on her hit song, “Easy On Me,” he asked to put a fan of hers on the phone — his daughter.
Through their working together, Adele’s duet “dream” came true and cemented a place for her in Billboard chart history. And Stapleton was able to score some “dad points.”
Adele was a fan before she asked Chris Stapleton to record ‘Easy On Me’ with her
Per CMT, Adele once told Rolling Stone Stapleton was her “dream duet partner,” so their connection may not be a real surprise to some fans. In fact, she said she’d been listening to him for over a decade, dating back to his days in the SteelDrivers.
“I’ve been covering SteelDrivers for like nearly 12 years now,” she explained. “It’s’ just…his voice is just f***ing brilliant.”
So, given she is a fan of Stapleton’s music, she shared he “would’ve been one person that I would’ve always have said yes, like 100%.”
Eventually, they began making plans to work together. They couldn’t meet in person at first due to the pandemic, so they met up on video calls. “We had to start over Zoom,” she explained. “It was devastating.”
But they found their “voices work brilliantly together,” despite the distance between them. So, they recorded “Easy On Me” and the addition of Stapleton to the song allowed Adele to debut on country music charts.
Adele was a ‘wonderful conversationalist’ while speaking to Chris Stapleton’s daughter
On Stapleton’s end, he was seemingly very happy to collaborate with Adele. But the dad of five also saw an opportunity to make someone else in his life very happy.
“When Adele called me to ask me to do it, I did stick her on the phone with my daughter real quick,” Stapleton said on Audacy’s Katie & Company per CMT. “I said, ’Here, talk to Adele real quick.”
According to him, the superstar didn’t disappoint them with her down-to-earth conversation skills. “She’s so good at verbalizing and conversing and making people feel good, so she obviously was a wonderful conversationalist in that moment,” he explained. In the end, he said, “I got a little bit of dad points there, I think, so that was fun.”
Notably, Stapleton is up for Entertainer of the Year at the 2022 Academy of Country Music Awards in 2022. He faces competition from Miranda Lambert, Eric Church, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Combs.
Adele made crossover history with Chris Stapleton on ‘Easy On Me’
Adele’s version of “Easy On Me” with Stapleton undoubtedly impressed music fans with the combined talent of the two superstars. But the song also made chart crossover history by climbing the pop, rock, R&B/hip-hop and country airplay charts, per Billboard. They called the achievement “unprecedented airplay chart history.”
But, though Adele is a new voice on country airwaves, Stapleton is likely familiar to some pop fans. Other pop collaborators include Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, and Kelly Clarkson.
