Former supermodel Chrissy Teigen is a fan fave on social media due to her transparency and keeping-it-real posts. Now the mom of two kids – daughter Luna and son Miles – with singer John Legend, the Lip Sync Battle star often populates her Instagram page with pics of family life with its ups and downs.

Never one to try and hide her own struggles or disappointments,   Teigen recently revealed that she lost out on several modeling gigs throughout her career as a cover girl.

Teigen’s post-baby body

As a former model, Teigen was accustomed to maintaining a certain figure. After having two kids, she realized that she needed to accept the physical changes her body experienced after pregnancy and decided to end the “decades” of criticizing herself.

“I used to weigh myself every morning, afternoon and night. I knew what the scales would say after each meal,” Teigen told Glamour UK in a recent interview. “I did that for eight years and had this one weight I wanted to be at. That changed with Luna, and really changed with Miles, where it took me a year to be comfortable with my new normal number.

While the cookbook author admits to not always being crazy about the ‘new normal,’ Teigen now enjoys the freedom she has with her modeling career behind her.

“I do look at [my body] in the shower and think, ‘Arghhh, these kids,’” Teigen confessed. “But I don’t take the aesthetics so seriously now. It’s very fulfilling not having that pressure of putting on a swimsuit and looking good for a magazine while running around a beach, which I did when I was modelling. I don’t feel like my body is where I’m going to be sh***y to myself, either. I’m already thinking enough things I am mad at myself about, I can’t add my body into it.”

Hired then fired

Teigen was discovered at 18 years old in a surf shop in California before embarking on her modeling journey. In her Glamour UK interview, Teigen described some of the required intakes she had to regularly partake in during her career.

“That was my entire career, doing weigh-ins,” she revealed. “With model agencies, it was normal to get measured too, and I did it myself mainly, so when you had direct bookings without castings, [the clients] knew what they were getting.”

Yet despite clients receiving Teigen’s weight and measurement data, sometimes the numbers were off which would result in her removal from the job. “There were jobs I would turn up to and they would say my measurements were off and it was the worst feeling to be kicked off the job. It happened three times,” she revealed, recalling one incident in particular.

“The client had booked me directly. I had half my make-up done and they asked me to get up and take a few photos, to test the light,” Teigen explained. “But they sent [the pictures] to my agency and the client fired me on the spot. I didn’t do any jobs without first going to a casting meeting for years after that.”

Teigen’s new career field

Trading the swimsuit shoots for pots and pans, Teigen is now thriving in her culinary career. The best-selling cookbook author decided to turn her cooking brand into a website and launched Cravings by Chrissy Teigens, in November.

“I’ve been wanting to do a real website where it was a true community of people that love Cravings, love the cookbooks, love the cookware, just a place where you could see everything that is our family,” she said in the recorded announcement, according to People. “We wanted to share everything in one little spot for you guys.”

With fans regularly flocking to her site, Teigen has made a new niche for herself in the culinary space. She often finds the kitchen to be the place she feels the most centered.

“Being in the kitchen and on my feet, getting to move around is a way to make me feel part of life again,” Teigen said. “It brings you back down to earth. Cooking doesn’t care who you are, you burn s*** just the same.”

It’s easy to understand why Teigen’s 28+ million Instagram followers find her so relatable!
