LA Pride in the Park returns in a new location

Pride in the Park is returning after a two-year hiatus due to coronavirus (COVID-19.) The concert is part of the LA Pride festivities. For 2022, the show is moving to Los Angeles State Historic Park, a 32-acre park in the LA neighborhood of Chinatown. The new location offers views of downtown LA.

Pride in the Park will have multiple stages and a capacity of 25,000 people. If attendance is high, it could be the largest Pride concert in the entire country. In a statement shared on the LA Pride website, Gerald Garth, vice president of programs and initiatives, said, “The inaugural L.A. Pride in 1970 set the foundation for what would become an annual celebration of the Greater Los Angeles LGBTQIA+ community.”

He continued, “Over the course of those 50 years, it has been inspiring to see neighborhoods throughout L.A. organize their own Pride celebrations. As we return to in-person events, L.A. Pride is honored to continue the tradition that we started 50 years ago, this time with the iconic Christina Aguilera in an iconic new location.”

Christina Aguilera has performed at LA Pride

Christina Aguilera made a surprise appearance at LA Pride in 2018. The “Beautiful” singer surprised the audience during a performance by drag queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race. Aguilera performed a remix of her song “Accelerate” while being fanned by the Queens.

This year, the talented vocalist will perform a whole set as the event’s main headliner on Saturday, June 11. Aguilera’s career started early on the Mickey Mouse Club. She achieved pop princess stardom with 1999’s “Genie in a Bottle.” The five-time Grammy Award winner has five No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hits and two No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200.

Aguilera’s latest release La Freuza dropped in Jan. 2022. The six-song EP is the first installment of her Spanish language trilogy. The other two albums will be released in 2022. The first single, “Santo,” was a collaboration with Ozuna.

Remzcala reported Aguilera loved working with Ozuna. “It’s more important to me now that I do things with artists that I not only admire, but I know I’m doing it because I love and want the experience,” she said. “Latin music is such a community-based, beautiful environment. There’s so much love there.”

Anitta, Syd, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez join the Pride in the Park lineup

LA Pride announced a lineup of exciting performers joining Aguilera at Pride in the Park on June 11. Fresh off her Coachella performance, Brazilian superstar Anitta will join Aguilera on the main stage. The “Envolver” singer is the first Latin artist to top Spotify’s Global Top 50.

Singer Syd, rapper CHIKA, and Pose‘s Michaela Jaé “MJ” Rodriguez were announced with the full lineup on April 19. Rebecca Black, Bob the Drag Queen, and Alexander Stewart will also take the stage.

On June 12, the day after the Pride in the Park concert, the annual LA Pride Parade will take place in Hollywood at 10:30 am. The official theme of this year’s LA Pride is #LoveYourPride. Tickets for the concert are available at prideinthepark.org.
