El Moussa and Haack called it quits in 2016 after seven years of marriage, two children together, and a hit HGTV show. The pair announced their decision to go their separate ways seven months after an incident involving a gun and police.
“We chose to get counseling to sort out our relationship,” they told Us in a statement. “Together, we have decided to separate while we reevaluate the future of our marriage.”
“During this process, we are committed to our kids and being the best parents we can be,” they said. “We will continue to work through this process civilly and cooperatively, and plan to continue our professional life together.”
Later, the separation became permanent with Haack and El Moussa officially divorcing in early 2018. They continued to appear alongside each other on Flip or Flop until the series finale aired in March 2022.
Christina Haack’s daughter told her she was done with therapy: ‘I don’t need to go’
Haack reflected on her divorce from El Moussa in an August 2017 Good Housekeeping interview. She shared that she and her ex-husband, who celebrated his five-month wedding anniversary with Heather Rae Young in March 2022, put Taylor in therapy.
Although, as Haack explained, Taylor’s therapy ended about four months before the interview when the now-11-year-old told said she didn’t “need” it.
“One day, as I was driving her to an appointment, she said, ‘I don’t need to go to therapy anymore. I think you and Daddy are happier apart, and I don’t really need to talk about it anymore,'” Haack recalled.
The Christina on the Coast star acknowledged Taylor’s “very open and honest with her feelings.” However, Taylor’s words still took her by surprise. “I was like, ‘Wow, that’s a big comment for a 6-year-old,’” Haack said.
Christina Haack and Tarek El Moussa were there to support Taylor in May 2022
Although they’ve had their fair share of tense moments, Haack and El Moussa want their kids to be happy. After Haack described being “sucker punched” by life in May 2022 following an argument at a soccer game, Brayden’s emergency surgery, and Ant Anstead filing for full custody of their son Hudson, she and El Moussa came together to support Taylor.
Haack posted a “co-parenting 101” photo on Instagram featuring her, her husband Joshua Hall, Taylor, El Moussa, and Young. “Kids come first. Taylor’s open house,” Haack wrote. “Next, on to middle school she goes.”
Amid the custody battle over her 2-year-old son, Haack’s custody agreement with El Moussa stipulates they share custody of Taylor and Brayden.
