‘Cinderella’ 2021: Camila Cabello and Idina Menzel Write and Perform Original Songs
Amazon Prime is keeping busy in 2021 and 2022, showcasing some of the most anticipated films to come to the industry giant’s streaming platform in the next year. Not only do we have The Wheel of Time and Lord of the Rings to look forward to, but the 2021 version of Cinderella is creating a lot of buzz — headlining with two notable musical artists.
Not only do we get a more modern take on one of our favorite princess stories, but we get two talented singers/songwriters — Camila Cabello and Idina Menzel — performing original songs in the film. While this is far from the only musical accomplishment in either star’s career, it will certainly make for one of their most memorable.
‘Cinderella’ 2021 won’t be your traditional fairytale
Originally slated for release on February 5, 2021, Cinderella was rescheduled to skip theaters and go straight to Amazon Prime on September 3, 2021. Between production suspensions due to the Coronavirus and a switch from Sony’s original intention for a theatrical release, Cinderella has been through it this year. Fortunately, that has all been worked out!
Come September, we will be introduced to a nice twist to the classic fairy tales we grew up with, swapping out the traditional fairy godmother with a genderless fairy godparent and giving ‘Ella’ a brighter future as well. Instead of our leading lady only pawning over a prince to have a better future, we also get to see her extreme talent, ambitions, and aspirations come into play as well.
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg on what will set it apart.
The film’s notable headliners will write and perform original songs
To top it all off, Menzel took to Twitter to let fans know she was excited for “a bunch!” of the songs in Cinderella. Not only did she admit to finding Cabello “extraordinary,” but she also revealed that “we both have original songs as well.”
This is exciting news if you’re familiar with either artist — let alone both. They are extremely talented singers and songwriters, so we will without a doubt be disappointed by the final results.
Cabello is widely known for her pop hits like “Havana” and “Senorita” and will likely bring that same energy to the film. On the other hand, Menzel is known for her work on Frozen and her originals on that film — so we already know we can expect great things from her in that sense.
The 14-track soundtrack for the film is slated to premiere at the same time as the film, so keep an eye out for it!
Other musical accomplishments of Cabello and Menzel
Amazon Prime’s Cinderella cast is jam-packed with stars, but there’s nothing more telling than having two headliners with incredible track records for making hits and performing at the top.
Cabello has earned 12 award wins in her career and two Grammy nominees, with many more years left to build that up easily. Her most notable awards include the Kids’ Choice Awards, USA, the MTV Video Music Awards (VMA), the Teen Choice Awards, and the YouTube Creator Awards. She has also had 17 songs make it onto the Billboard 100, with four Top 10 Hits and 2 No. 1 Hits.
Then there is Menzel, who has seven award wins, including Behind the Voice Actors Awards for lead vocals in Frozen on multiple occasions and Online Film & Television Association for Best Music, Original Song. She is also the first Tony Award-winning actress to reach the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart — reaching number five with “Let it Go” from Frozen.
