Clairo is walkin’ out the door (with her bags) and onto the Governors Ball stage. This artist returned to the New York City music festival to perform songs like “Sofia,” “Bags,” and “Zinnias” — even if there were some “sound issues” along the way. Here’s what happened during this songwriter’s Gov Ball set.

Live music is back in New York City, with Citi Field hosting Governors Ball Music Festival in June 2022. The three-day festival featured well-known artists Halsey and Kid Cudi as headliners.

Performers added to the Sunday Gov Ball lineup include Playboi Carti, Glass Animals, Kaytranada, Becky G, Jazmine Sullivan, 100 Gecs, Japanese Breakfast, COIN, and Soccer Mommy, among others — the headliner for the June 12 was J. Cole.

Another artist hitting the Governors Ball stage was Clairo, a singer-songwriter best known for “Sofia,” “Pretty Girl,” “Flaming Hot Cheetos,” and her TikTok hit “Amoeba.”

Clairo had some ‘sound issues’ at Governors Ball Music Festival

Clairo took to the GOVBALLNYC Presented by Verizon stage on Sunday, even if there were some hiccups along the way. After walking to her keyboard, this artist realized her microphone wasn’t working correctly, which led to an impromptu conducting moment.

The first song, “Bambi,” had this artist’s vocals going in and out, with Clairo and her band still working out the kinks before performing her second song. Although there were some silent moments, the crowd filled it with cheers for the “Flaming Hot Cheetos” singer. By the time her second song, “Zinnias” finished, this artist found her groove.

“Alright, can you hear me,” she asked her audience, which resulted in supportive cheers. “I can hear myself now.”

Clairo performed songs off of 2021’s Sling, with this singer also showcasing live versions of her fan-favorite releases, “Sofia” and “Pretty Girl.”

Some fans tuning in to the Governors Ball live stream even shared their support on social media. One YouTube comment said, “‘Bags,’ ‘Sofia,’ and ‘Skate Kitchen Song’ are good. Clairo seems like [a] wholesome gal – does not get too wild.”

Clairo mentioned her Governors Ball Music Festival performance on Twitter

Following her appearance at the music festival, Clairo mentioned the technical difficulties on her social media accounts.

“Thanks to everyone who was at Gov Ball today – we had a lot of sound issues,” Clairo tweeted following the performance. “I appreciate all your positivity and support through it, and hopefully we can make it up to you another time.”

This wouldn’t be the first time this singer appeared at New York City’s event, as Clairo appeared in the 2019 lineup. (Governors Ball even included footage of Clairo’s last performance in promotional material.)

Aside from her appearance at Sunday’s Gov Ball, Clairo recently embarked on her 2022 Sling tour, making stops across North America. Music by Clairo is available on most major streaming platforms.
