‘Clueless’: Which Star Is the Most Successful Today?
Yes, it’s officially been a quarter of a century since Clueless came out, but has our absolute obsession for this 90s film subsided at all over the years? As if! Many of us can still quote this legendary cult classic, and it remains one of our favorite movies of all time to this day.
Clueless follows super-rich and popular high school girl Cher as she navigates complex (to say the least) family relationships, boys who don’t know the meaning of consent (Elton, you would be totally canceled in the #MeToo generation), and what it means to be a good person. Many stars got their breakout roles in Clueless, and some have now become household names with successful Hollywood careers.
So who is the most successful of the lot?
Alicia Silverstone
The glamorous, perfect Cher Horowitz was played marvelously by Alicia Silverstone. She’d had a couple of different acting roles, but becoming the perfectly dressed Cher instantly made her America’s high school sweetheart. She is reported to have signed a contract for Clueless that made her around $10 million.
Since her plaid miniskirt days, Silverstone has starred in a few different films and TV series, and most recently can be seen in Netflix’s adaptation of the hit book series, The Babysitters’ Club. Weirdly, for all of us who see Silverstone as a perpetual teenage girl, she plays a mom. She’s estimated to be worth about $40 million today.
Paul Rudd
Paul Rudd is another superstar who got his name out there with Clueless. Rudd plays Cher’s ex-stepbrother (it’s complicated) and love interest (we told you – complicated!), Josh.
As absolutely adorable as he was in Clueless, Rudd has become a Hollywood megastar in the 25 years since its release, in large part thanks to his role as Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s had plenty of other roles over the years, though, and is one of the most loveable guys in Hollywood.
Rudd is estimated to be worth a whopping $70 million today after the success of Marvel’s Avengers: End Game, and is the richest of all the stars of Clueless. He’s arguably the most successful of the lot, thanks to his MCU success.
Brittany Murphy
Brittany Murphy played the quirky new girl at Cher’s high school, Tai, who Cher takes on as a sort of pet project; Cher changes Tai’s whole look, and gives her tips to become popular – from how to act to who to date.
Although Murphy started acting as a child, Clueless was also her breakout role; for someone so gorgeous in real life, she played the socially awkward Tai brilliantly. Murphy went on to have a successful Hollywood career, with starring roles in movies like 8 Mile alongside Eminem.
Murphy tragically died in 2009; the exact circumstances surrounding her death continue to be controversial. She is said to have been worth around $10 million at the time of her death. That said, Murphy had a robust career and legacy remains strong. Many of her films are cult-classics.
Stacey Dash
Stacey Dash played Cher’s BFF, Dionne; Dionne had a what we know recognize as super-toxic relationship with her on-again-off-again boyfriend, Murray. Dash plays the perfect sidekick to Silverstone’s Cher, and seemed to be the only girl in school whose family was as wealthy as Cher’s.
Dash apparently made about $700,000 for her role as Dionne, which she reprised in the subsequent TV series as well.
Sadly, Dash is one of the few stars of Clueless whose career didn’t really take off after this hit film. These days, she’s mostly known for making controversial racial statements, which is interesting considering she is a person of color herself. She was hired at one point to be a consultant on Fox News, but was let go from the position. What’s saddest of all is that Dash also seems to have lost her Clueless fortune; apparently, she only has $100,000 to her name.
