This relationship is pretty unconventional, but when Cher sets her mind to something, (or someone,) nothing stops her. By the end of Clueless, this character ends up dating her totally dweeb-y step-brother.

Cher and Josh had a pretty unique relationship in ‘Clueless’

This 1995 flick is full of the trials and tribulations of high school. Of course, going to high school in Los Angeles is a bit of a different story. 

For the fashionista and self-proclaimed humanitarian, Cher, her world turned upside down when she realizes she’s in love with her step-brother, Josh, portrayed by actor Paul Rudd.

“My grandparents were stepbrother and stepsister. And they met when they were teenagers,” Director Amy Heckerling said during an interview with Yahoo. “They fell in love, but they were always fighting and, you know, into their late 80s, they were still fighting with each other. I mean, like, cats and dogs fighting. So it never seemed strange to me.”

Were Cher and Josh related in this rom-com?

When Clueless first starts, Cher’s father says that they’ll spend time with his ex-wife’s son. Josh is older than Cher and is going to college to study law. With Cher being so involved in her social circle, the two “siblings” don’t exactly get along. 

“You were hardly even married to his mother and that was five years ago,” Cher complained to her father. It took Cher a while to figure out she was completely and utterly in love with Josh. 

She even went out on a date with another boy named Christian, who she was totally ready to spend the night with. It isn’t until she fails her driver’s test that she realized she’d rather spend time with her step-brother. 

As her step-brother, their relationship isn’t weird at all. Not only do they have different parents, but Josh is older than Cher, with him going to college while she’s going to high school. By the end of the movie, they’re together and happy.

Are the actors from ‘Clueless’ related?

Of course, in real life, these two actors aren’t related either. Rudd appeared in several Marvel movies as the superhero with the power to shrink and grow himself, Ant-Man.

He appeared briefly in Night At the Museum and in This Is 40, even though during his Billy On the Street cameo, a few fans called him “never aging.”

The actor behind the stylish and iconic character, Cher, is Alicia Silverstone. She later appeared in Batman & Robin, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul, and The Killing of a Sacred Deer.

Brittany Murphy, the actor behind Cher’s friend Tai, appeared in Happy Feet, Don’t Say a Word, and 8 Mile.
