‘Cobra Kai’ Season 5: Ralph Macchio Explains Why Daniel Still Can’t Convince People Terry Silver Is Evil
Cobra Kai Season 5 got its first teaser at the Cobra Kai: Live and Badass event May 5. Cast members Ralph Macchio and William Zabka were also there to speak about the upcoming season. Daniel LaRusso (Macchio) still finds himself trying to convince people that Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) is bad news.

Showbiz Cheat Sheet was at Cobra Kai: Live and Badass to hear Macchio and Zabka talk. We’ll have a lot more with them and the cast discussing the making of Cobra Kai. But first, here is what Daniel and Johnny are facing in Cobra Kai Season 5, which premieres Sept. 9 on Netflix.
Daniel LaRusso is on a quest to stop Terry Silver in ‘Cobra Kai’ Season 5
Daniel and Johnny bet Silver and Kreese (Martin Kove) that whoever loses the All-Valley Karate Tournament would stop teaching Karate. He expected to be victorious though. Daniel still won’t take the loss lying down.
“At the end of season 4, you guys know, Cobra Kai is victorious, illegally,” Macchio said. “So for Larusso, he’s calling in reinforcements as we know at the ending of season 4. So it’s about only Daniel LaRusso knows how bad Terry Silver is. He’s the only one who’s seen that. So going forward for him, it’s about all bets are off. We’ve got to take this guy down. He cannot contaminate the San Fernando valley. It’s fun. Even saying it out loud, it’s fun. That’s part of what we love. It’s so important.”
Terry Silver makes Daniel LaRusso look bad, Ralph Macchio says
Daniel is quickly becoming like Brody in Jaws. He keeps warning people that Kreese and Silver are sharks, and he turns out to be right, yet everyone tells him he’s overreacting. That gives you a sense of what Daniel is up against in Cobra Kai Season 5.
“Sometimes when you are the only one who sees something, you end up looking like the crazy one,” Macchio said. “So maybe for LaRusso, he winds up on that path. It’s always about losing the balance and finding your balance as Mr. Miyagi would say.”
Johnny Lawrence isn’t worried about the dojo in ‘Cobra Kai’ Season 5
Zabka said Johnny has bigger problems than Karate in Cobra Kai Season 5. At PaleyFest, he’d spoken about how painful it was to have Johnny whisper, “I love you too, Robby” to Miguel (Xolo Maridueña). Now Miguel has left to find his father in Mexico.
“Johnny at the end of season 4, in a way he got everything he’s been hungry for and that is a connection with his son,” Zabka said. “So Karate is secondary in this moment. There’s other primary concerns. He lost Miguel but he doesn’t know that he did that. That drunk scene, he didn’t realize that happened. He doesn’t know he pushed Miguel away. Now Miguel is off, maybe in the danger zone. So Johnny’s heart is there. I can only tell you that. As far as the All-Valley goes, they made a bet and if they lost, they lost. Johnny’s a man of integrity.”
