‘Cobra Kai’ Star May Join the MCU Via ‘Spider-Man’ Franchise as a Famous Mutant
Reports surrounding Spider-Man 3 and the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s future have been running rampant. Ever since outlets confirmed Alfred Molina’s casting in Spider-Man 3 as Doctor Octopus — reprising a character he played in the Tobey Maguire-led franchise over a decade ago — reports have suggested that a Civil War-like venture is on the horizon. Yet, one pivotal Marvel group remains rather amiss in the MCU: mutants.
While Disney is likely letting the dust settle as the Fox X-Men movies are not that far in the past, rumor has it that Cobra Kai star Tanner Buchanan will join the MCU in a future Spider-Man movie, but not the upcoming Spider-Man 3.
Tanner Buchanan may play Iceman in the MCU
According to Marvel and DC Insider Mikey Sutton of GeekosityMag, Buchanan’s will enter the MCU via a Spider-Man movie set during Parker’s college years. Sutton reported:
“Cobra Kai actor Tanner Buchanan is among the actors being eyed to play the mutant Iceman in the MCU. Sources have revealed to me that Iceman could be among the first X-Men cast for Disney. His debut is being discussed for an upcoming Spider-Man movie.”

Iceman was formerly portrayed by Shawn Ashmore (X-Men, The Following, Cadet Kelly) in Fox’s franchise. Buchanan’s role would, according to reports, provide the gateway to other mutant characters.
Tanner Buchanan could be a part of a ‘Spider-Man’ college trilogy a couple of years from now
While many Cobra Kai fans would love to see Buchanan in the MCU sooner than later, there may be quite the wait if he’s been targeted for Parker’s collegiate-based trilogy. Sutton noted, “Iceman will be college friends with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker and another mutant, Firestar.” And, according to the Scoopster’s earlier reports, a college franchise is coming:
SCOOP – 11/18/19: Hearing from my sources at Disney — some of the same ones who confirmed my Spidey scoops in the past — that Disney and Sony will collaborate again for Spider-Man 4 in 2023 with Peter Parker in college. Whether it’s that July 2023 release date remains to be seen but it’s highly possible. UPDATE: It’s looking like a college trilogy.
