Coldplay’s Chris Martin Once Sang ‘My Heart Will Go On’ From ‘Titanic’ for Leonardo DiCaprio
The 1997 film Titanic cemented Leonardo DiCaprio as one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. In the movie, DiCaprio played Jack Dawson, a struggling artist who falls for Kate Winslet‘s character, Rose DeWitt Bukater, while they are passengers on the RMS Titanic.
As part of the movie’s original soundtrack, Celine Dion recorded a song called “My Heart Will Go On.” Like Titanic, “My Heart Will Go On” ended up becoming a huge hit. At the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation’s 20th Anniversary Celebration, Coldplay’s Chris Martin performed “My Heart Will Go On” as a tribute to DiCaprio.
The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation put on an anniversary celebration
The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation was formed in 1998, and the non-profit focuses on protecting wildlife and bringing attention to issues like climate change. On Sept. 15, 2018, the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation held a 20th-anniversary benefit.
The foundation’s anniversary celebration was a zero-waste event and featured an auction and dinner to raise money to combat the effects of climate change.
According to a press release that was shared before the event, “The auction will offer unique experiences, collectibles and fine art… The 20th Anniversary Celebration in Sonoma, CA will be co-hosted by LDF Founder and Chairman Leonardo DiCaprio and Emerson Collective Founder Laurene Powell, whose star-studded group of chairs includes Arnold Schwarzenegger, Madonna, Ellen DeGeneres and Robert Redford.”
Chris Martin sang the famous ‘Titanic’ song for Leonardo DiCaprio
At the anniversary benefit, Martin performed a number of songs including popular Coldplay hits like “Viva La Vida.” The Coldplay singer also gave a call back to Titanic and covered Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On.”
After Martin performed “My Heart Will Go On” for DiCaprio, producer Roma Downey shared a video of the performance on Instagram.

Chris Martin made fun of Leonardo DiCaprio at the event
In addition to performing songs for the famous actor, Martin also took the time to poke fun at DiCaprio. While onstage, Martin connected DiCaprio’s love of wearing cargo shorts with saving the environment.
“I studied him very closely for about five or six years and what became clear to me was his unbelievable service, his commitment to the business of cargo shorts,” Martin said in a speech according to Entertainment Tonight.
He continued, “This is a guy, he’s seen cargo shorts and he said, ‘I’m going to save these shorts from extinction. They should have gone out about 25 years ago. I’m personally going to fund the sort of renaissances of cargo shorts.'”
Most recently, Martin released a song called “My Universe” with Coldplay and the members of BTS. DiCaprio will be seen next in the 2021 film Don’t Look Up.
