Coldplay is the Grammy Award-winning group behind songs like ‘Fix You’ and ‘A Sky Full of Stars’

Since Coldplay debuted, this group performed at the Super Bowl and even earned a few Grammy Awards. The frontman for this band and the brain behind a number of Coldplay’s original songs is Chris Martin.

“The first time I ever sang in public was in a school concert when I was 11,” Martin said during an interview with Rolling Stone. “I sang a song I had written about newspapers. Some people really dug it. And others didn’t. I remember these two girls came up to me afterward and said, ‘We heard you singing,’ and then they both giggled and ran off… my whole life has been that day repeating ever since.”

Technically, one of the group’s biggest hits isn’t even their song. According to Official Charts, the group’s 2017 release, “Something Just Like This” is one of their most popular songs, which is a release by The Chainsmokers.

“Scoring 140 million audio streams and an impressive 313,000 downloads, ‘Something Just Like This’ has a combined sales tally of 1.7 million,” the website reads. “Following a performance at the 2017 BRIT Awards, the song shot up the Official Singles Chart to peak at Number 2. It’s the most streamed song on video too.”

As of March 2021, “Something Just Like This” has the most plays of any Coldplay song on Spotify, at a whopping 1.5 billion plays. The Chainsmokers’ YouTube lyric video for this song has almost 2 billion views.

There are a few other historic songs by Coldplay, including ‘The Scientist’ and ‘Viva la Vida’

In terms of nominations, awards, and recognition on the music charts, “Viva la Vida” takes the cake. The song earned the No. 9 spot on Rolling Stones’ “100 Best Songs” of 2008, according to Showbiz Cheatsheet. The song also has over 825 million plays on Spotify. 

When it comes to fan-favorite songs, “Clocks” is one of the most memorable, as well as the song that kickstarted Coldplay’s popularity. Billboard put this song in the top spot when it comes to Coldplay’s “50 Best Songs.” “Yellow” earned the No. 2 spot.

“Hymn For The Weekend” also earned its place as one of Coldplay’s most popular songs, as it was a collaboration with the chart-topping artist, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter. (In 2011, Coldplay collaborated with Rihanna for “Princess of China.”)
