Cole Sprouse Didn’t Think Jughead Would Have a Strong Presence on ‘Riverdale’
Riverdale is a teen drama television series with its roots in comic book lore. The show features a lot of talented young actors, from industry veterans to up-and-coming new faces. One of the former is Cole Sprouse, a former child star turned adult actor. Although Sprouse’s character on the show has become a standout, earning acclaim from fans, the actor recently admitted that he never expected to have such a vital role on Riverdale.
Cole Sprouse didn’t think Jughead would have a strong presence on ‘Riverdale’
Cole Sprouse plays Jughead Jones, an engaging and philosophically-inclined young man who also happens to be Archie’s best friend. While Jughead doesn’t exactly fit in with the popular kids, he plays several vital roles in the town of Riverdale, including working as an adviser at the Blue and Gold high school newspaper. When Riverdale premiered, fans gravitated to the character of Jughead right away.
Sprouse revealed in a recent Wired interview that he certainly never expected to become a fan favorite. “At the time, I didn’t think Jughead was gonna be too strong of a presence on the show,” Sprouse said, throwing it back to his first appearance on Riverdale in the show’s first episode. “The pilot was kind of a story between the love triangle characters – Betty, Archie, and Veronica, and Jughead was a silent observer.” Sprouse noted, “As the show got picked up, my character’s presence increased. And now it’s like the Four Amigos.”
Cole Sprouse opened up about the seventh season of ‘Riverdale’
Sprouse is no stranger to acting in popular TV shows. After all, he became a star in the Disney Channel series The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, acting alongside his twin brother, Dylan Sprouse. However, the character of Jughead has earned him thousands of new fans. These days, Sprouse is one of the biggest stars on Riverdale. With the seventh season of the hit series coming soon, many fans wonder what new episodes will hold for Jughead.
In a recent interview with Extra, Sprouse admitted that he’s also curious about the storyline in the upcoming new season. “We received the episodes pretty shortly before we start filming them,” the actor said, noting that he’s still in the dark about what will happen to Jughead and the future of Riverdale in general. “I don’t know, to be honest,” he said when asked by Extra if Riverdale Season 7 would be the last.
When will Season 7 of ‘Riverdale’ debut on TV?
To date, showrunners have not revealed when the highly-anticipated seventh season of Riverdale will premiere. Elite Daily reports that the new season could debut sometime in fall 2022, most likely in October or November. The CW has also been silent about whether this season will be the show’s last, although many cast members speculate it will be. Sprouse himself has admitted in recent months that he is ready to move on to the next chapter of his life, telling GQ he and his castmates are “ready to wrap it up with a bow.”
Based on these remarks, it seems likely that Riverdale could be nearing its end, even if that end doesn’t come for another year or two.
