Collin Gosselin Says Estranged Mom Kate Gosselin Needs to ‘Come Forward With the Truth’ to Heal Their Broken Relationship
Collin Gosselin is not opposed to reconciling with his mom, Kate Gosselin. But for that to happen, she needs to acknowledge the pain she caused him during his childhood, he says.
Collin Gosselin says reconnecting with his siblings is his ‘top priority’
Collin, 18, has been estranged from his mother for years. He has accused Kate, 49, of isolating him from his siblings, locking him in the basement of the family home, and restraining him with zip ties when he was young. Eventually, she placed him in an institution because of what she has said were severe behavioral issues. But Collin claims that he was misdiagnosed with various psychiatric conditions and should never have been separated from his family.
In 2018, Collin’s dad Jon Gosselin obtained custody of him and his sister Hannah. His other six siblings remained with their mother. (Jon and Kate divorced in 2009.) Collin hasn’t had contact with his brothers and sisters since 2016. But he would like to one day have a relationship with them.
“So first and foremost, my relationship with my brothers and sisters is of top priority to me,” Collin said in a new interview with The U.S. Sun published on Oct. 8.
Collin wants the ‘Kate Plus 8’ star to acknowledge her past actions
While Collin is eager to connect with his siblings, he’s more cautious about rebuilding a relationship with his mother.
“I think the only way that my mother and I would be able to reconnect and fix our relationship in the future is, if she would just come forward with the truth and all the things that she has kept under wraps,” he said.
“And you know the many times that she’s tried to soil my name and my father’s name. I just would want her to come forward with the truth,” he added. “[But] Yes, that door would be open. 100%”
For now, Collin says the only time he sees his mother is when she appears on TV. In 2023, she appeared on the Fox reality series Special Forces: The World’s Toughest Test. She was cut after one episode because of an injury.
“It seems like she had a very difficult time on Special Forces and you know. even so, with everything going on right now,” he said. “I still did deeply feel sorry for her, and how she had to struggle through those challenges on that show.”
Collin, who is now a freshman in college, said despite the bad blood between them, he has sympathy for Kate.
“Despite my mother, and you know her, her constant effort to protect her reputation at the cost of mine, and the things that she has said about me and the things that she has done to me, I still feel in my heart I feel sorry for her…,” he said.
Kate has not responded directly to Collin’s latest allegations of abuse. In a 2023 Instagram post, she described him as an “unpredictable and violent” person with a “distorted perception of reality.”
