Colton Underwood: What is the Net Worth of the Former NFL Tight End and ABC’s Newest Bachelor?
The third time’s the charm, maybe.
On Sept. 4, 2018, ABC announced that the leading man who will be handing out roses on Season 23 of The Bachelor is none other than Colton Underwood. The 26-year-old previously competed on Becca Kufrin‘s season of The Bachelorette before reuniting with his ex and former Bachelor contestant Tia Booth on Season 5 of Bachelor in Paradise. Now, Underwood is trying to find love for a third time on the reality dating series and Bachelor Nation wants to learn as much as they can about him.
We already know that Underwood is a virgin as that became part of his storyline and something he shared with Kufrin during an intimate moment on The Bachelorette. And, according to a source, it’s one of the main reasons the network chose him to be the next Bachelor.
“Colton was by far the safest pick. He’s a virgin and he works in non-profit. He screams wholesome, middle America,” the insider told E! News. “I think, coming after Nick Viall and Arie Luyendyk, producers were keen to pick someone whose intentions would be viewed as sincere. No one wants another questionably shady guy.”
Here are a few other interesting facts you may not have known about Underwood including what the former football player’s net worth is.
He used to date an Olympian

Before appearing on The Bachelorette, Underwood dated Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman.
In June 2017, he explained that they were no longer together but had remained close friends saying, “We’re taking a break right now. We’re still good friends and talk, but all that travel had been a nightmare. It ended fine. We’re in a good place.”
Underwood owned a restaurant
Underwood once owned a sports bar called 4th & Goal Grill in Washington, Illinois, which he opened in 2016.
However, in 2018, due to his busy schedule with The Bachelorette and his Colton Underwood Legacy Foundation, he sold the establishment to his aunt and uncle, Sherrie and Geoff Lucas.
When the couple took over operations they renamed the eatery Brickhouse BBQ and debuted a new menu featuring home-style barbecue dishes.
He was named after an NFL team
The Indianapolis native was actually named after his hometown’s professional football team: the Indianapolis Colts. And, speaking of the NFL, Underwood actually spent some time in the league.
After playing tight end at Washington Community High School, he went on to play college football at Illinois State. In May 2014, he signed as a free agent with the then-San Diego Chargers but was released a few months later. He then joined the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad and later returned to the Chargers’ practice squad. After the team waived him in 2015, he signed with the Oakland Raiders’ practice squad before he was released.
His net worth
Underwood’s 2016 contract with the Raiders was worth a reported $450,000, however, he only made $33,000 that year. Players on a team’s practice squad typically earn a minimum of close to $7,000 a week. He also reportedly earned $88,200 in 2014 when he was with the Chargers.
As for how much he made on reality TV, well, The Bachelor and The Bachelorette contestants don’t get paid but the Bachelor in Paradise castmembers do get a stipend of approximately $15,000. He also made money from when he owned the 4th & Goal Grill.
Underwood has an estimated net worth of $1 million.
How Underwood hopes his season will end
During an appearance on Good Morning America, Underwood spoke about his upcoming season and the possibility of it ending with a marriage proposal.
“That’s what I’m looking for … being engaged and then getting married shortly after that,” he said. “I’m very excited … That’s what I’m hoping for!”
The Bachelor will premiere in January 2019.
