I have a cat, and I worry about that. I check the door three times before I go out.” The actor added, “I put food and water in every room in case the door closes, and he’s peckish for 20 minutes.”
Gervais went on to explain further. “There’s loads of reasons why I don’t have kids. The world is overpopulated. No one’s sitting around going, ‘Oh, Rick’s not going to have kids, we’re going to run out, there’s loads!'” Gervais certainly has a fondness for cats. He’s shared a few of his precious pets on social media over the years. Clearly, the comic has a full, happy life without children.

Gervais is not the only celebrity who has been vocal about the decision not to have kids. According to BuzzFeed, Stevie Nicks is one celebrity who has chosen to focus on her career rather than children. “It’s like, Do you want to be an artist and a writer, or a wife and a lover?” she said. “With kids, your focus changes. I don’t want to go to PTA meetings.”
Another singer, Dolly Parton, opted not to have children. However, she’s in a happy marriage with her longtime husband, Carl Dean. Parton credited the “freedom” from not having kids for helping her career flourish. Additionally, Oprah Winfrey, Christopher Walken, and Ina Garten have all talked openly about how having children was something they never believed was for them.
