“What’s in it for Kate?” That’s the question royal commentators asked and answered during a discussion about a possible reconciliation between Prince William and Kate Middleton and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Hint: The answer had everything to do with the couples’ children

Commentator asks and answers ‘What’s in it for Kate?’

Speaking to Sky News Australia, royal commentator Louise Roberts claimed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at a “bygones be bygones” stage where they want to put their differences aside.

“Meghan feels bad for Kate. I mean, she’d have to be completely heartless not to feel bad for her,” Roberts said.

Kate announced she’d been diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer in a rare video statement on March 22, 2024. It came on the heels of King Charles III’s own cancer diagnosis announcement a month earlier. Since then Kate’s stayed out of the public eye—for the most part—to focus on recuperating.

Now, the “issue” is, according to the commentator, that Harry and Meghan “actually patch things up” with the Prince and Princess and Princess of Wales. “But, I have to ask, what’s the motive, and what’s in it for Kate?”

Kate would ‘maybe entertain’ a Harry and Meghan reconciliation for the Wales and Sussex kids

Roberts continued, discussing a possible reason Kate might want to patch things up with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. She put it down to their children.

“The only reason I could think she would maybe entertain some kind of reconciliation is for the sake of the children,” the Sky News contributor said.

William and Kate are parents to Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, and Harry and Meghan to Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3.

“So those little cousins can get to know each other and [King] Charles [III] as grandfather, can get to know his grandchildren in the US.” (A previous report claimed the 75-year-old monarch is more ready than ever to play an active role in all of his grandchildren’s lives.)

But, alas, the Wales and Sussex families live in different countries. The Wales family resides in Windsor, England, near Adelaide Cottage, Harry and Meghan’s former U.K. home where they once lived with baby Archie. Now, of course, they live stateside after relocating to Montecito, California, in 2020.

Meghan wants to ‘let the anger and bitterness go’ and reconcile with William and Kate

Harry and Meghan are reportedly “trying to connect” with William and Kate since reaching out with “well wishes” before Kate’s Trooping the Colour appearance on June 15, 2024.

“They’ve jointly reached out to send well wishes, but they’re still not really in a place with Kate to warrant much of a response,” an insider told Closer, adding that this “hasn’t stopped them from trying to connect.”

“When Kate gets back into action, their hope is that it might take some of the heat off them and possibly trigger a truce with her and William, and with the King, too.”

“Meghan’s desperate to come across as the bigger person and end this feud between them—appearing like some sort of royal savior could only do her image good,” a source said.

“And, despite all their bad blood, her heart does go out to Kate—she can only imagine how hard this situation must be for her.”

Kate’s preventative chemotherapy treatment is ongoing after sharing in an emotional social media statement she still has “good days and bad days.”

“Meghan has made it clear she’d love nothing more than to move past all the nonsense and find a way towards [sic] healing for everyone’s sake. She’s ready to let the anger and bitterness go,” they added.

This marks a big change from previous reports, in which Harry was the one who wanted to extend an olive branch, not Meghan.
