The TLC show Counting On follows Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar and their children. The two have 19 biological children plus one adopted child, and they’re one of the largest families in the United States. And though it’s commonly understood that Michelle gave birth to all of her biological kids, critics of the show have one bizarre theory that suggests otherwise.

Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar have an enormous family

Jim Bob first Met Michelle when the two were teenagers; he’d heard that she was considering becoming a more serious Christian, so he approached her to see if she wanted to be saved (by God). The two got to know each other quickly, and though they were hardly old enough to get married, they prayed that the other was the one God wanted them to be with. Jim Bob and Michelle married at 19 and 17 respectively, and they didn’t wait long to start a family.

Though they were taking birth control at first, Michelle once revealed that she became pregnant while on it and had a miscarriage. From there, the couple stopped believing in birth control methods. By the time Michelle was in her early twenties, the two had welcomed their first son, Joshua. And for the next 20 years, Michelle and Jim Bob let God decide their total number of kids. They now have 19 biological children and one adopted child, who is the son of Michelle’s niece, for a total of 20 kids.

Critics suspect James Duggar might actually be Amy Duggar’s son

Counting On critics often take to the Internet to troll the family, and they’ve come up with some interesting theories about the Duggar children. But perhaps the most interesting of all is the idea that James Duggar, who is almost 19, isn’t actually Michelle’s son. Critics theorize that James belongs to the Duggars’ cousin, Amy Duggar, who would have been about 14 when she had him.

According to the popular subReddit DuggarsSnark, James doesn’t closely resemble any of the siblings, which led to the idea that Jim Bob and Michelle might have taken him in after Amy became pregnant as a teenager. Of course, there is nothing to suggest the theory is true. However, Amy doesn’t follow the same strict courtship rules as her siblings, so she isn’t necessarily against premarital intimacy. Still, the theory seems a bit far-fetched — but anything is possible.

Some of the Duggar children seem to be starting large families of their own

Michelle and Jim Bob have an enormous number of kids, and it looks like some of their own children might be headed down the same path. Joe and Kendra Duggar had two kids in just over two years, and they started their family when Kendra was only 19. Jessa and Ben Seewald welcomed three kids in five years, so it’s possible they’ll have a large family as well. The same goes for Joy and Austin Forsyth, who dealt with an unfortunate miscarriage last summer but started a family when Joy was only 20.

It’s unclear which couple will have the most kids, but some suspect it will be Joe and Kendra, since they announced a second pregnancy before their first child had even turned one.
