‘Counting On’: Some Fans Think It’s ‘Completely Ridiculous’ That Jana Duggar Hasn’t Done More With Her Life
Counting On star Jana Duggar has chosen to live her life a bit differently from the rest of her family members. Most of the Duggar kids married their spouses at a very young age — some were only teenagers when they tied the knot.
Jana, however, has always gone the more independent route, opting not to get involved in a relationship early in life. But marriage aside, some family followers can’t understand why Jana isn’t taking the opportunity to do “more” with her life.

Michelle and Jim Bob have one of the largest families in the United States, and Jana Duggar is the couple’s oldest daughter. The family starred in 19 Kids and Counting for years before it was rebranded into Counting On, and during that time, viewers saw plenty of Duggar weddings. However, Jana Duggar always opted not to court at a young age.
Fans had patiently waited for Jana to wed, since marriage and having kids are both so sacred to the Duggars’ religion. But Jana always said she was simply waiting for the right person, and nobody yet had come along who interested her enough. Now, there are rumors Jana actually is courting, though nothing has been proven.
Some ‘Counting On’ viewers are frustrated that Jana hasn’t taken more opportunities in life
Fans always rooted for Jana to remain unmarried until she felt she was ready, if ever. And in that time, Jana was able to pursue hobbies she loved, such as gardening. She also is quite close with her twin brother, John David, and often visits with John and Abbie to play with her niece, Grace.
Though viewers have never pushed Jana to marry, some who are more critical of the show have wondered why the 31-year-old isn’t doing more with her life. Jana didn’t attend college and has essentially lived under her parents’ roof without a job for the last 13 years. Jana recently posted a video of her garden, and Reddit users wished she’d do a bit more with her life.
“Glad Jim bob gives her money for her garden. She can at least enjoy that,” one person wrote.
“[Jana] has absolutely no ambition whatsoever to get a job outside her parents realm, on her own,” one person wrote on Reddit. “She is so beholden to her father and financially dependent on him. It’s completely ridiculous.”
Another user had a different view. “Jim Bob would never let any of his daughters to get a job,” the user wrote. “Jim Bob did everything to ensure that his kids are financially dependent on him, that’s his purpose.”
There have been rumors that Jana Duggar is courting
Late last year, rumors flew that Jana had started courting a man named Stephen Wissman. The Duggar family has largely chosen to remain private about relationships recently (the family completely concealed Jed Duggar’s wedding). Still, people have spotted Jana and Stephen together, sparking courtship rumors.
Jana has always said that she wants to get married but has never put a timeline to her future. If she is courting, there hasn’t been an official announcement from her or her family. But perhaps another secret Duggar wedding is on the horizon.
