‘Counting On’ Fans Think Jessa Duggar is Living With Depression: ‘She’s a Victim’
The Duggar family lives a life that’s very different from that of most modern American families. Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar raised their kids in a household with many rules and few modern luxuries. The kids could not watch television or go online without being closely monitored. And now, some fans question if Jessa Duggar’s upbringing has taken a toll on her mental health.
The Duggars believe that God heals anything
Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar are Baptists, and they’re very faithful. They have made religion the center of their lives, and they interpret the Bible very closely. The family does not believe in abortion or gay marriage, and they also feel that God is the answer to all problems.
When Josh Duggar admitted to sexually abusing some of his sisters when he was a teenager, the family sent him to a Christian camp to help his problem. They wanted him to find answers through God rather than be evaluated by a professional. Prayer has always been the family’s biggest form of medicine.
Fans have noticed that Jessa Duggar seems lazy
Fans took to Reddit to discuss Jessa Duggar’s interesting habits, and the original poster likened them to signs of depression. The poster said that they, too, have depression, and they found a lot of similarities with Duggar’s behavior.
“I’m not saying my house is spotless, but Jessa seems indifferent to her dirty house, her ten month-old not having her own crib, the Christmas tree still out in March, etc.,” the original poster wrote. Laziness and lack of motivation can be signs of depression, so it isn’t too far off to correlate the two. “I’m wondering if growing up in the [family], being a sexual abuse victim, being financially controlled and having a trio of young kids is contributing to Jessa being depressed,” the OP added.
Some think Duggar’s upbringing took a toll on her mental health
Those who watch the show took to the Reddit thread to share their thoughts, and many of them agreed. Some said they’d never considered it, since Duggar has always seemed like one of the strongest, most influential members of her family. But after examining the examples, users said it seems feasible.
“Sometimes the only way to deal with overwhelming depression is control… And that may be why she can be so overbearing,” someone wrote. “As someone who went through a depressive episode, the way her house looks sends me straight back to those memories,” someone wrote, comparing Duggar’s messy home to their own personal experience with depression. “I think [depression] manifests in different ways – for Jessa putting on a front and attitude but under it all not having the energy or wherewithal to keep her home,” someone else added.
There is nothing to confirm Duggar’s mental health condition, though people remain concerned
It’s important to note that there is no definitive evidence that Duggar is living with depression. And while it may appear that way on the outside, we will likely never know. Some users suggested that Duggar’s three young kids could be the main reason she can’t keep her house clean (anyone with kids knows what that is like). Still, though, users seemed concerned for her well-being, saying “she’s a victim” of sexual abuse. They also seemed concerned with whether she’d be able to get the help she might need if she sought it.
