Counting On star Jana Duggar has remained unmarried despite seeing her 30th birthday come and go. While being unmarried at 30 is normal for most women, in the Duggar world, it’s considered far too old to still be waiting for Mr. Right. But it turns out Duggar made it clear she wasn’t planning to marry young from the start — and always knew her twin brother, John David, would wed before her.

Jana Duggar seems to enjoy the single life

people constantly question why Duggar isn’t married — she seems to be the only one who doesn’t mind her single status. Duggar loves working on DIY projects, gardening, and spending time with her family. Though she has occasionally answered fans’ comments about why she isn’t married (she usually says something along the lines of “I haven’t met him yet”), she otherwise doesn’t entertain those who constantly question why she didn’t follow in her family’s footsteps with a young courtship.

Duggar has been at the center of rumors about her relationship status

Duggar has had to fend off a few rumors through the years, including whether she’s courting someone new, if Jim Bob prevents her from marrying, or if she’s a lesbian. People have tirelessly speculated on Duggar’s reason for not tying the knot, and a former Duggar employee most recently said that it’s because she’s in love with her best friend, Laura DeMasie.

Duggar and DeMasie have both spoken out about rumors of a relationship between them, and both have denied them. DeMasie has been a Duggar family friend for years.

Duggar made it clear in season 2 of ‘Counting On’ that she was in no rush to wed

Fans have always wondered why Duggar wasn’t the first daughter in her family to get married. After all, she’s the oldest, and for the most part, the kids have married in age order. But Duggar made it clear years ago that she was in no rush to walk down the aisle.

On season 2 of Counting On (filmed in 2015), producers asked Duggar where she saw herself in five years. “I’m not just out to get married to the first one that comes along,” she said. Later in the episode, when Duggar and her twin brother, John David, were sitting together on the couch, producers asked which of the two would court first. Duggar immediately pointed to her brother.

She loves being the fun aunt

Duggar is now the aunt to John David and Abbie Duggar’s little girl, plus plenty of other nieces and nephews. And she seems to like it that way. Duggar once posted a photo holding John and Abbie’s daughter with the caption, “Her parents think I come over to hang out with them.” It’s clear that Duggar loves being an aunt, but maybe she doesn’t necessarily want to be a mom.

It’s unknown whether Duggar wants kids of her own. She helped her mother raise most of her siblings, so it’s possible she doesn’t want to raise her own kids and only wants to spend time with her nieces and nephews. Time will tell if Duggar decided to enter a courtship later in life.
