‘Counting On’: Jessa Duggar Admits She and Her Family Broke 1 Major Duggar Rule
Jessa Duggar and her husband, Ben Seewald, have generally been following the house rules put in place by Duggar’s parents, Michelle and Jim Bob. Still, as the Duggar children get older, they’ve been slowly redefining what it means to be raised within the strict family — and that includes bending some of the rules.
Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald have followed closely in her parents’ footsteps
As the Duggar children have grown up, fans have started to realize that the kids are slipping away from their parents’ grasp. Jinger Duggar moved to California with her husband, Jeremy Vuolo, where she cut her hair, began wearing pants, and started watching television. Jill Duggar has practically cut ties with the family (though, based on claims made by Derick Dillard, it was more because of finances) and has begun wearing shorts and enrolling her children in public school.
Jessa Duggar, though, has always been more of a rule follower. She and Ben Seewald wed in 2014 and live close to her home. The two still attend the same church as her parents and, though it hasn’t been confirmed, it seems they’re on track to homeschool their kids. Plus, they’ve dreamt of a large family similar to the one Duggar grew up in.
Duggar recently revealed that she and her children watch television
Although Duggar is a rule follower, it turns out she is raising her kids to be slightly more mainstream than her parents. Duggar recently revealed in an Instagram post that her three kids have started watching Man Vs. Wild, a popular show about how to survive in the outdoors. The show does not have any religious undertones, and since Michelle and Jim Bob raised their children without any television, it was a surprise to see Duggar stepping out and breaking a Duggar rule.
This isn’t the only time Duggar has surprised fans with her decisions. A photo she posted toward the beginning of quarantine appeared to show her wearing pants, which is something the Duggar daughters were never allowed to do growing up — and something Duggar had never been spotted in before.
Duggar is important for the family’s brand
Though Duggar generally obeys her parents, there could be a reason why she isn’t as rebellious as some of her sisters: The Duggar brand. Michelle and Jim Bob’s family members have become reality stars, and Jessa Duggar is arguably the most popular person on the show. With more than two million Instagram followers, it could be important for the show that Duggar follows in her parents’ footsteps.
Duggar is clearly the most popular among fans, and some believe she wants to be just like her mom and dad. Though her dynamic with her husband seems different than her parents’ (critics have suggested Duggar doesn’t seem as submissive as other Duggar wives), she still has mentioned growing her family to be as large as the one she was raised in, giving her the biggest chance of carrying on her family’s reality television legacy.
