‘Counting On’: Jessa Duggar Reveals Why She Was ‘Really Sad’ About Marrying Ben Seewald
Counting On stars Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald wed back in 2014. And in earlier episodes of the show, Duggar and Seewald were even more of the show’s focus than they are today. When Duggar and Seewald started courting, it was a big deal, as Jill Duggar had been the only other daughter to start a courtship at the time. But when it came time to get married, Duggar revealed that, along with the happy, she was also “really sad.”
Jessa Duggar and Ben Seewald had one of the longest Duggar courtships
When the Duggar kids first started to reach courting age, most of the courtships lasted longer than they do now. Duggar and Seewald met through church; Seewald was a few years younger than Duggar, but she said he caught her eye from the start because she thought he was cute.
The two began courting in 2013, and they were in a relationship for a whopping 10 months before Seewald popped the question (these days, Duggar courtships might last as little as one month).
The two are arguably the most important people on the show
In 2017, Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard left Counting On, though they were two of the stars. And now, Seewald and Duggar are arguably the two most important cast members. The other kids’ storylines are in focus, but Duggar and Seewald have been the faces of the show since it was rebooted after Josh Duggar’s sexual abuse scandal broke in 2015.
Duggar and Seewald share three kids, and their entire relationship has been documented since before Counting On was even a show. But Duggar recalled in season 2 that she was “really sad” about one thing when preparing to marry Seewald.
Duggar revealed she was ‘really sad’ about marrying Seewald because of her sister, Jinger
Duggar decided to make Jinger Duggar her maid of honor, since the two were very close and Jill was living in South America. Before the couple’s wedding, Jinger spoke about her favorite moments with her big sis and started crying mid-speech; soon, they were both tearing up.
Duggar then went on camera and said one thing that made her “really sad” about marrying Seewald was that it would forever change the bond she had with her younger sister.
Duggar and her sister have remained very close, despite their distance
Fast forward six years, and Jinger Duggar is now living on the other side of the country with her husband, Jeremy Vuolo. Seewald and Duggar are still planted in Arkansas, but the two sisters have remained extremely close. Seewald and Duggar even made a special trip out there to spend some quality time with Jinger and Jeremy, and the two sisters always post heartfelt messages for each other on birthdays and other special occasions.
Duggar and Seewald have also remained close with Duggar’s older sister, Jill, despite that there seems to have been a bit of a falling out between Jill and the rest of the family. It’s clear that Duggar greatly values her relationships with her sisters.
