‘Counting On’: Jessa Duggar Reveals That She Suffered a Miscarriage Last Year in Her Pregnancy Announcement
The Duggar family officially has two pregnant family members. Jessa Duggar joins sister-in-law Kendra Caldwell in pregnancy. Jessa, 28, recently revealed that she is expecting her fourth child on Instagram, but she also shared that she and her husband had suffered a pregnancy loss in 2020. Jessa’s three children are six years old, four years old, and 21 months old.
Jessa shared that she suffered a miscarriage in 2020
Jessa is the most recent Duggar family member to share the devastating news that they lost a pregnancy. In a statement to ET Online, the mother of three revealed that she and her husband, Ben Seewald, lost a pregnancy sometime in 2020. While the couple didn’t share many details, family followers are quickly putting the pieces together.
In March 2020, fans started to notice that Jessa was appearing in fewer and fewer family photos. They hypothesized that the mother of three was expecting again, all before her youngest child turned one. Jessa was quick to dispel the rumors, but it looks like perhaps some of those theories were correct. She never revealed how far along she was when she lost the pregnancy or exactly when she found out she was expecting.

Jessa’s revelation about her miscarriage came with some happy news attached. The parents of three will soon be parents to four children. Jessa announced via Instagram with a simple shot of an ultrasound. Jessa didn’t share her due date or how far along she is, but family followers already think they may have a clue.
In her post, Jessa noted that she and her family are looking forward to the summertime to welcome their new addition. If Jessa were three months pregnant, that would mean she would likely deliver sometime in August 2021. Family followers think she might be further along than that and could welcome her newest addition as early as June 2021. The latest addition will be a bit more than two years younger than the couple’s youngest child, Ivy Jane Seewald.
Several other members of the Duggar family have also suffered miscarriages
Miscarriages, especially in early pregnancy, are not uncommon. Several members of the Duggar family have dealt with pregnancy loss in recent years. Lauren Swanson, who married Josiah Duggar in 2018, revealed the loss of her first pregnancy on the family’s show, Counting On. Joy-Anna Duggar announced the loss of her second pregnancy via Instagram. Jinger revealed that she suffered a loss before she and her husband, Jeremy Vuolo welcomed a second, healthy baby girl, too.
Michelle Duggar famously lost a late-term pregnancy, as well. The family matriarch lost her 20th child at four and a half months gestation in 2011. The miscarriage came after Michelle had an emergency delivery with her nineteenth child. Josie Duggar, born in 2009, was born at just six months and one-week gestation. At just one 1lb., 6 oz., she was considered a micro-preemie.
