Counting On alum Jill Dillard is used to getting criticized. As a member of the controversial Duggar family, Dillard has gone on the defense plenty of times while facing down people who didn’t understand her lifestyle. At this point, she fully expects to get attacked for anything she posts on social media.

Dillard preemptively shushed potential haters on a recent Instagram story, calling them “Karens” and assuring them that she was behaving like a good mom after all.

Out of all the Duggar daughters with social media followings, Dillard’s Instagram is one of the most popular. It probably has something to do with how she frequently shows off her messy house or her kids acting naughty rather than trying to make her life look Pinterest perfect all the time.

But that level of over-sharing led to some parent-shaming in the past. Dillard often hears backlash from followers based on how she’s raising her two sons, Samuel and Israel.

The ‘Counting On’ alum called out ‘Karens’ on Instagram

On Oct. 23, Dillard shared a toilet graphic and a GIF of Shirley Temple laughing as she recounted a recent parenting incident. The text said, “When you hear your kids fighting over a flashlight in the bathroom… Then you hear, ‘Uh, it fell in the toilet!’ (And yes, there was ‘stuff in there).”

She included a poll asking if her followers were having a better Friday than she was, InTouch reported. And beneath that, Dillard hilariously added, “And flashlight is in the trash, Karen.”

For anyone not in the know, “Karen” is slang for a person who complains a lot. Urban Dictionary calls Karen a “middle-aged woman, typically blonde, makes solutions to others’ problems an inconvenience to her although she isn’t even remotely affected.”

In other words, it’s a great descriptor for how Dillard sees people who comment negatively on her posts.

In the past, Dillard’s been criticized for plenty of parenting decisions besides just fishing filthy flashlights out of the toilet. The Counting On star once got slammed for putting son Samuel on a “dirty” carpet when he was just a baby, even though supporters pointed out that there may have just been a shadow on the carpet.

Another time fans came out in force to badmouth the mom of two’s husband, Derick Dillard, when he let then-baby son Sam chew on a plastic water bottle. Fans warned that the lid could unscrew and get lodged in the baby’s throat, causing him to choke.

And then there are the many recipe fails Dillard posted over the years, including dishes that relied heavily on processed ingredients that fans didn’t consider healthy. Her canned tuna with barbecue sauce concoction inspired a huge amount of backlash from fans urging Dillard to select healthier meals for her family.

After so many disparaging comments from alleged “Karens,” Dillard is striking back against naysayers before they can say a word. But hey, at least she didn’t keep that gross flashlight.
