‘Counting On’: Joy-Anna Duggar Begs Fans for Help Dealing With Her Curly, Frizzy Hair
Joy-Anna Duggar is in dire need of a hair intervention. The Counting On star took to social media on Jan. 30 to ask her followers for advice on how to deal with her “frizzy” hair.
In her Instagram Story, the 22-year-old explained that in the last year, her hair has gone from “stick-straight” to curly. The change has left her baffled as she struggles to control the newfound frizz.
“Needing some advice to tame my mane,” she wrote in the update where she begged for some haircare tips.
Joy-Anna Duggar says she’s tried a few things to control her hair, but nothing works
In the video, Joy-Anna explains that her hair is now “really, really curly” in the back and a “frizzball” in the front.
“I don’t know what to do,” the mom of one says. She said she’s tried using gel in her hair and scrunching it, as well as conditioner, but neither produced the results she wanted.
“I don’t want it like this,” she says as she touches her hair. “Because it’s not very attractive.”
Her fans had a ton of advice
Joy-Anna asked her followers to share their suggestions on “how to get natural curls that aren’t frizzy!!” They delivered, with a number of people recommending specific products or hair care techniques.
Multiple people suggested that Joy-Anna try DevaCurl. The Curly Girl Method — a hair maintenance routine for those with wavy, curly, and coily hair — was also suggested. Others recommended products from Monat, Aussie, Mielle, and Marc Anthony. “Use a fiber towel or old T-shirt to dry your hair rather than a regular towel,” commented another.
Joy-Anna might also want to ask her big sister Jessa for help. She recently shared her routine for getting soft curls in just 15 minutes.
She made a dramatic hair change recently
Joy-Anna’s plea for hair help comes a few months after she made a major change to her style. In November, she debuted a fresh new haircut, complete with bangs. Her family — and her followers — loved the new look.
“Love the bangs, Joy joy!” her sister Jinger Duggar commented on Instagram.
Joy-Anna isn’t the only member of the Duggar family to make a big hair change in recent months. Before she moved to Los Angeles, Jinger went California-girl blonde. “Decided to go with the blonde balayage this Summer,” she wrote on Instagram. Many Counting On fans loved her new look.
A few months later, Jill Duggar also made waves when she cut her hair. Just before Christmas 2019, the mom of two “chopped off” her ultra-long locks, which she’d had for years. Instead of her standard trim, she decided to have her stylist take off more than 12 inches.
“I wanted to get a little more cut off than I did last time and wanted to get it done soon because it was getting to be hard to manage, the boys were getting tangled in it, I was sitting on it and the weight was contributing to headaches!” she explained on her family’s blog.
While Joy-Anna seems to be having some hair care struggles right now, it’s clear she and her sisters have come a long way from the dated, permed hair they had when they were kids.
