‘Counting On’: Kendra Duggar Turns 23, and Critics Have Plenty to Say About It
Kendra Duggar, who is married to Joe Duggar, recently celebrated her 23rd birthday. She and Joe wed when Kendra was only 19, and since then, the two have welcomed three kids.
Still, despite that fans love the dynamic between Kendra and Joe, some Counting On critics are worried about what Kendra turning a year older might really mean.
Joe and Kendra didn’t waste any time starting a family
Kendra is a member of the Caldwell family — a group the Duggars have known for years. Joe and Kendra first met long before they began courting. Joe, who is several years older than Kendra, was friendly with her for a while, but it wasn’t until Kendra grew a bit older that Joe started to see her in a romantic light.
The two eventually started courting after getting to know each other better, and within two months, they became engaged. Joe proposed at Joy and Austin Forsyth’s wedding in May 2017, and Joe and Kendra tied the knot in September 2017.
Not long after, Kendra became pregnant. In fact, the couple welcomed their first child, Garrett, exactly nine months after they wed, on June 8, 2018. It doesn’t take much to figure out that Kendra likely became pregnant on the couple’s wedding night.

Critics are concerned that Kendra and Joe are having kids too quickly
Kendra and Joe welcomed their first son nine months after their wedding. And since 2018, the couple has welcomed two more kids: A daughter named Addison Renee, who was born in November 2019, and a daughter named Brooklyn Praise, who was born in February 2021. Kendra became pregnant with her third child at age 21, and while that’s not unusual in the Duggar lifestyle, some critics of the show are worried that she’s having children too quickly. In a Reddit thread, critics gathered to discuss Kendra’s 23rd birthday.
“I wonder how many kids she’ll have by the time she’s 30…” one user wrote.
“Is this the longest she’s not been pregnant since her wedding?” someone asked.
“Brooklyn is close to 6 months old. Kendra will probably be pregnant again soon.”
Critics have had a hard time with Kendra having three kids before age 23. Now that she’s a year older, and the couple’s youngest daughter is six months, fans are convinced she’ll be announcing a fourth pregnancy before the end of the year.
Both Kendra and Joe Duggar were raised in families with plenty of children
Though it’s not common for someone to have so many kids at such an early age, it isn’t unusual for the Duggars. Joe and Kendra both come from large families. Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar have 19 children, and Kendra’s parents just welcomed their ninth child this past spring. Kendra and her mother have been pregnant at the same time twice.
It’s unclear if Joe and Kendra will announce another pregnancy any time soon. Based on the spacing between their first three kids, it seems likely. Still, neither has spoken out about growing their family even more.
