‘Counting On’ Viewers Sense Major Tension in Jill Duggar’s Response to Her Parents’ Birthday Post — and Fans Love It
Former Counting On star Jill Duggar recently celebrated her 30th birthday — a milestone year and a fresh start at a new decade. Most who follow the Duggar family know by now that Jill hasn’t always been on the best terms with her parents, Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar.

At one point, Jill Duggar was the face of Counting On. The show was originally called 19 Kids and Counting, but it rebranded in 2015 after Josh Duggar’s sexual abuse allegations from the early 2000s came to light. For a while, the show followed Jill and her husband, Derick Dillard, as they started a family and moved to South America.
In 2017, though, Jill and Derick abruptly left the show. Fans thought it was because of inappropriate statements Derick had made about other TLC stars. However, fans later learned that the two had left because of growing tensions between them and Jill’s parents.
Over the past year, Jill and Derick have opened up even more about the relationship, with the two saying they felt trapped in the show and felt like they had to live their lives by Jim Bob’s rules.
Jill Duggar’s response to her parents’ birthday post suggests things aren’t great between them
For several years now, tensions have been high between the Dillards and the Duggars. While Jill appears to have a close relationship with her siblings, she and her parents still aren’t in a good place. However, her parents sent her a thoughtful happy birthday message on Instagram — but viewers think Jill’s response suggests there is still plenty of tension.
“Happy birthday [Jill]!! We love you so much!” the Duggar family Instagram story read, with a photo of Jill and Derick. The photo was posted to Reddit. However, Jill’s reponse didn’t exert the same emotion. Though she reposted the photo to her own story, she only replied with a bland “Thanks!” and an emoji — she did not return the “we love you” favor.
Viewers of the show took to Reddit to discuss Jill’s response, and it seems clear that her reaction to her parents’ post reveals tension.
“Jill’s ‘thanks!’ is extra hilarious to me. If only she’d added ‘bless your hearts,’” one user wrote.
“’Thanks’ is what is say when I have zero f***s left,” another user commented.
“This is honestly the best possible response and it made me laugh,” another viewer added.
It’s unclear how much of an effort Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar have made in repairing the relationship
Jill and her parents have been at odds for several years now. Michelle and Jim bob have hardly spoken out about where things stand between them and their second-oldest daughter. The two have made the occasional statement about how they love Jill, but nothing more.
At this point, with Jill headed into her 30s, it remains unclear what the future holds for Jill’s relationship with her parents. Should she continue to pull away from them, it seems that things could be far from getting back to normal.
