‘Crazy Rich Asians’ Fans Will Love HBO’s ‘House of Ho’
Crazy Rich Asians hit theaters in 2018, and became an instant success. Not only was it a sweet love story, but it revealed a lot about the culture in Singapore. Crazy Rich Asians fans instantly fell in love with the main characters Nick and Rachel and were rooting for them right up until the final kiss.
Now, Crazy Rich Asians has inspired the docuseries The House of Ho. It’s based on Binh and Hue Ho as well as their extended family. Bustle reports that the show will be a comedy sure to please fans of Crazy Rich Asians.
‘Crazy Rich Asians’ has critics fawning
Crazy Rich Asians is a critically acclaimed film that shows that family can really wreak havoc on your love life. Rachel Chu (Constant Wu), an Asian-American, is happily living life in New York when her boyfriend Nick Young (Henry Golding) asks her to go to a wedding with him. She agrees and is looking forward to a wonderful weekend in Singapore. Little does she know that her life is about to be turned upside down.
Turns out, Nick hasn’t been entirely truthful with Rachel. His family is one of the richest in Singapore, and he’s the hottest bachelor in the entire country. Rachel had no idea and is completely unprepared for the people who lash out at her because they don’t think she’s not good enough for him.
Not only does Rachel find herself facing off with crazed fan girls who destroy her hotel room, but Nick’s mother never fails to make it clear that Rachel is not welcome in her family. Drama naturally ensues, and fans are both elated and heartbroken for Nick and Rachel as they try to figure out how to proceed when everyone is against their relationship. Everything turns out for the best, but it’s a roller coaster of emotions up until the very end.
‘The House of Ho’ was inspired by ‘Crazy Rich Asians’
Real life typically inspires fiction. Crazy Rich Asians did the opposite, however, and inspired a docuseries with real people. It might seem a little out there, but The House of Ho is shaping up to be one of HBO Max’s newest hits.
The half-hour comedy is based off of Binh Ho and his family. Binh and his wife Hue are immigrants from Vietnam who became oh so very rich here in America. Now they’re trying to keep their two adult children Judy and Washington from embarrassing the family in Houston, Texas.
According to Bustle, “Other supporting characters in The House of Ho include Lesley Ho, Washington’s wife and an independent mother of two, Aunt Tina, an eccentric relative who rocks purple streaks in her hair, and Cousin Sammy, a young adult who lives in the moment, per an initial report.”
Fans of ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ will love ‘The House of Ho’
Rumors have been abounding for months that a sequel to Crazy Rich Asians is in the works, but as of yet, there is no specific date as to when it will be released. Fans of the movie won’t have to wait for The House of Ho, however, since it was released on July 16.
Fans may be disappointed that Rachel, Nick, and his ever outspoken mother Eleanor aren’t in the show, but they’ll have plenty of new, and real, characters to fall in love with. While much of the focus will be on the Ho family’s dazzling lifestyle, this will only be an appetizer for fans. The Ho family is family-centric and look out for each other. This can result in some rather hilarious situations, however, as fans will see.
