Criminal Minds: Evolution is a revival of CBS’s long-running series Criminal Minds, which ended in early 2020. The show returned in late 2022 with most of the original cast (minus fan favorite Matthew Gray Gubler). But the new season came with a slightly different twist. Rather than the former case-of-the-week approach, Criminal Minds: Evolution focused on a single, disturbing case that unfolded over the course of the season.

Now, the show is set to return for its second season. The first two episodes of Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2 premiere on Thursday, June 6. The season has 10 episodes. New episodes will be released weekly on Thursdays through August 1.

Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 1 ended with serial killer Elias Voit (Zach Gilford) behind bars. But his story isn’t over. In season 2, the BAU must turn to Voit (aka Sicarius) as they investigate the Gold Star mystery teased in the season 1 finale.

“We’re planning on using [Voit] almost the way Hannibal Lecter was used in Silence of the Lambs, that we have this brilliant mind, twisted profiler in custody, and we don’t wanna talk to him,” showrunner Erica Messer told TV Insider. “We don’t feel like we need his help, but because of the Gold Star of it all, we’re gonna need to talk to him a little bit more than we ever thought we would.”

Here’s the official synopsis for the new season of Criminal Minds: Evolution:

“In the wake of last season’s shocking finale, the upcoming all-new season of Criminal Minds: Evolution picks up as the FBI’s elite team of profilers investigates the deadly mystery of Gold Star. As the conspiracy unfolds, the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) is met with an unexpected complication when serial killer Elias Voit negotiates a deal that transfers him to federal custody in the BAU’s own backyard. The team faces its biggest threat yet and cannot emerge unscathed from the mind-bending consequences.”
