With only one season left to go in the iconic series Criminal Minds, fans are hoping that their favorite BAU agents will find happiness in the end. Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) hasn’t exactly had the best luck with women on the show. Will he actually find love in the final season? Read on to learn what the evidence suggests.

Could Reid and JJ end up together?

From the way things ended in season 14, Jennifer “JJ” Jareau (A.J. Cook) and Reid still have unfinished business. JJ made a confession that still has our ears ringing. The duo was being held against their will by an unsub and JJ had to reveal a secret she has never said out loud before.

“Spence, um, I’ve always loved you. And I was just too scared to say it before. And now things are just really too complicated to say now,” JJ said as she also cried. “I’m sorry, but you should know.”

Could this confession really lead anywhere? Most likely not considering JJ is married to Will with children. She’s been close with Reid since they first met, and as best friends, it makes sense that she might have confused the feelings. Fans were definitely not happy about the turn of events.

What fans think of the Jeid situation

Reddit users aren’t exactly on board for the Jeid situation. It seems to be a forced connection that no one ever wanted. “When the end is approaching they seem to just hastily created a forced romance and I don’t buy it, it was never (well there are some but it’s short lived and it just happened naturally) in CM’s nature,” one Reddit user said.

“Absolutely freaking hate it. Completely destroys the credibility of the characters,” another user wrote.

‘Criminal Minds’ casts a new love interest for Dr. Spencer Reid

Reid will have another shot at love with someone new in season 15. TVLine reported that Rachael Leigh Cook of Perception will play Max in the coming season. Max will appear in at least two of the final 10 episodes of the series. Fans are really hoping this means Reid will find happiness in the end.

Fans want Reid to find love

“prays to writers and TV gods Please do not give Criminal Minds a sitcom love triangle. Please do not give Criminal Minds a sitcom love triangle,” a Reddit user wrote.

“I don’t think Reid could be happy if he contributed to breaking up the family of his godchildren,” another Reddit user said, which is a great point. He’s extremely close with JJ and her family and he wouldn’t want to hurt any of them. That gives major points to a new love interest in his life.

“I’m glad Reid will have love interest, I was hoping it would be one of the possibles we’ve already seen though,” someone else noted.

Since fans weren’t exactly on board for JJ and Reid to get together, it looks like this new love interest could be the answer to Reid having a real life outside work and someone to love after so long. JJ has her own family, so things will fizzle with them before they really even start. It was a nice thought, but it won’t work long term and Reid deserves happiness for once. Maybe this new woman will give that to him. Things look promising for Reid going into the final season of Criminal Minds.
