‘Cross’: Will There Be a Season 2 on Prime Video?
What’s next for Alex Cross? Prime Video’s new series Cross ended with a dramatic season finale that neatly tied up the season’s two primary mysteries. But the door is open for more stories featuring the detective/forensic psychologist. After all, he’s been featured in more than 30 novels by James Patterson, who created the character in his 1993 book Along Came the Spider.
Can’t get enough Alex Cross after binging Cross? Well, we have good news for fans who were sucked in by the new show.

‘Cross’ Season 2 is coming to Prime Video
All eight episodes of Cross premiered Nov. 14 on Prime Video. Aldis Hodge plays the title character. Other cast members include Isaiah Mustafa, Melody Hurd, Caleb Elijah, Jennifer Wigmore, Juanita Jennings, Ryan Eggold, Johnny Ray Gill, Eloise Mumford, Alona Tal, and Samantha Walkes.
Though Cross was just released, Prime Video is convinced it will be a hit. In April 2024, it renewed the show for a second season, The Wrap reported.
“I am thrilled to be embarking on another chapter of Cross. Moments like this don’t happen by accident,” showrunner Ben Watkins said in a statement. “Getting a season 2 pick-up before our first season even drops is a huge testament and vote of confidence in the amazing work that our crew, cast, directors, writers, and production team have delivered thus far.”
What’s next for Alex Cross?
Cross Season 1 saw Alex Cross attempting to unravel multiple mysteries. By the finale, he’d discovered that Ed Ramsey (Eggold) was the Fanboy killer and put him behind bars. (Though there was one final twist that ensured Ramsey wouldn’t get the recognition he so desired for his crimes.) He’d also discovered that his son’s piano teacher was behind his wife Maria’s murder. She had targeted him and his family as payback for his role in sending her informally adopted daughter to prison for a crime she didn’t commit.
The season ended with Cross turning a page after a troubled period in his life. He sat down for an interview with a man he’d attacked and beaten, wrongly believing he’d murdered Maria. He also went to therapy, finally ready to open up about his feelings about losing his wife.
The first season of Cross comes to a satisfying conclusion while also setting the stage for more stories involving Hodge’s character. A credits scene with Ramsey’s accomplice Bobby Trey (Johnny Ray Gill) and FBI again Kayla Craig (Alona Tal) hinted at what might be to come. Trey knows where Ramsey kept all the information he used to blackmail various D.C. powerbrokers, and he’s willing to share it with the feds, for a price. Will that treasure trove of data point Cross to another killer? Perhaps. But what exactly is next for Cross isn’t clear. Though the series is inspired by Patterson’s novels, season 1 is an original story that’s not based on a specific book. Season 2 will also presumably involve a fresh plot that won’t be familiar to fans of Patterson’s novels.
“I said I was not going to do any of the seasons based on the books,” Watkins told Entertainment Weekly. “I thought it was really important that we give fans a new offering, that we honor the characters and the world so that they would feel like they were getting what they signed up for, but also then give them a new story They’ll get what those books feel like.”
All episodes of Cross are streaming on Prime Video.
