‘Cruel Summer’ Episode 4 recap
In the last episode of Cruel Summer, viewers saw what transpired in 1993, 1994, and 1995 at the annual Wallis family hunting trip. In 1993, Kate arrived at the cabins to find out that her mother, Joy Wallis (Andrea Anders), invited their new assistant principal, Martin Harris (Blake Lee), on the trip. At first, Kate seems freaked out by the man; however, she talks to him under the stars later that night. He opens up to her about his father committing suicide when he was a child.
In 1994, we got more insight into what happened when Kate was confined to Martin’s basement. She attempted to escape, but then he drugged her and loaded the room with food and supplies for an extended stay. Kate began counseling with a therapist and befriended Mallory (Harley Quinn Smith).
Who is Annabelle?
Later in the 1995 scenes of Cruel Summer Episode 4, viewers wonder who Annabelle is. At first, it sounds like a name that Kate used to describe what happened to her. However, later, fans hear that Kate first met Annabelle at Martin’s house before she was rescued. Is she a real person or an alternate personality?
We also learn that Kate’s step-sister, Ashley (Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut), is the person Kate is talking to in a chat room. Although, Kate doesn’t know it’s her sister. Ashley might know Kate’s full story. Does she know who Annabelle is? It’s possible.
‘Cruel Summer’ Episode 5 trailer teases anything but fun at the county fair
In the latest Cruel Summer Episode 5 trailer, Kate Wallis and Jeannette Turner have a disturbing run-in at the county fair involving Martin Harris. In 1993, Kate smiled at the new assistant principal, and viewers could tell that he continued to build his relationship with her.
“You kids wanna try your luck,” Martin Harris asks in the Cruel Summer Episode 5 trailer.
In 1994, Jeanette’s brother, Derek Turner (Barrett Carnahan), confronts his sister about stalking Kate at the fair. The two teenage girls seem to run into each other in the house of mirrors, as well as Mr. Martin.
“Your memory has been shaky since the trauma,” Jamie Henson (Froy Gutierrez) tells Kate in 1995. “Don’t you think it’s possible that you didn’t see what you think you saw?”
It’s evident from the trailer that Mr. Harris and Kate had many interactions before he kidnapped her. The strange thing is that she told the police she didn’t know him before she was trapped in his basement. Why did she lie? Plus, her boyfriend, Jamie, also starts to question her honesty.
The Cruel Summer Episode 5 trailer teases the upcoming story to air on May 11, 2021, on Freeform. All Cruel Summer episodes are streaming on Hulu the next day.
