‘Cruel Summer Episode 9’ Promo Teases More Details About Martin Harris
The Cruel Summer Episode 9 promo revealed many new details about what happened at Martin Harris’s (Blake Lee) house while Kate Wallis (Olivia Holt) was locked in the basement. ‘Cruel Summer’ Episode 9 promo
In the Cruel Summer Episode 9 promo, viewers find out more details about what happened after Kate ran away to Martin’s house. In another session with psychologist Dr. Sylvia Parks (Lee Eddy), Kate opened up about her abduction.
“There’s something I haven’t told you,” Kate told her therapist. “I wasn’t always locked in the basement.”
After a first watch of the Cruel Summer Episode 9 promo, fans might think that Sylvia was the one responding to Kate’s admission. It sounded like something a psychologist might say. However, the voice viewers hear next is Mallory Higgins (Harley Quinn Smith).
“Groomers pose as saviors when in reality they’re predators,” Mallory says over a clip of Martin locking Kate in his basement.
Meanwhile, Joy Wallis (Andrea Anders) told her husband, Rod Wallis (Ben Cain), that Kate hadn’t been to school. Rod questioned whether they should call the police; however, Joy insisted that Kate was fine.
“Kate wouldn’t put herself in harm’s way,” Joy insisted. “She’s somewhere safe.”
However, on the same day at Martin’s house, he told Kate that she was “officially a missing person.” He told the teenage girl that the police were looking for her and closed all of the curtains. Typically the episode revolves around only one day each year, so it seems like Martin is lying to Kate about the police searching for her.
Another shocking revelation in the Cruel Summer Episode 9 promo showed Jeanette Turner in front of Martin Harris’ house.
‘Cruel Summer’ Reddit theories: Snow Globe
In Cruel Summer Episode 8, “Proof,” Jamie Henson (Froy Gutierrez) played a voicemail for Jeanette Turner (Chiara Aurelia). He explained that it was a strange call that he got on Christmas Eve in 1993, a few months after Kate’s disappearance. After Jeanette heard the recording, she ran to Mallory’s house and asked for a snow globe back. Reddit fans believe that the voicemail music was the same tune that the snow globe played.
“Martin buys the snow globe for Kate at the mall on Christmas eve in ’93,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “When Kate gets access to a phone to call Jamie, the snow globe is playing in the background. Jeanette keeps breaking into Martin’s and, on one occasion, steals the snow globe.”
In the midseason trailer of Cruel Summer, fans noticed that the snow globe was in Jeanette’s room in 1993 (around minute 1:23).
“My guess is Jeanette stole the snow globe from Martin’s during one of her break-ins and gave it to Mallory as some sort of gift,” another fan added.
Since Jeanette gave Mallory a stolen yearbook from Martin’s house to apologize once before, it makes sense that she might break in and steal something else as a peace offering. Kate recalled that Jeanette saw her at Martin’s only a few months after her disappearance, so the timeline fits. Kate’s secret that proved she was lying was the chat room discussion. Now, Jeanette’s secret proof comes from the snow globe.
