‘CSI: Vegas’: Which Original ‘CSI’ Cast Members Are Returning for the Reboot?
CSI is getting a reboot. CBS has given a straight-to-series order to CSI: Vegas, a sequel to the hit crime drama that originally aired from 2000 to 2015. The show will premiere during the 2021-22 broadcast season.
‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’ star William Petersen returns as Gil Grissom
Several beloved CSI characters will return for the sequel, which will see “a brilliant new team of forensic investigators … welcome back old friends and deploy new techniques to preserve and serve justice in Sin City,” according to CBS. They’ll also face “an existential threat that could bring down the Crime Lab.”
William Petersen will reprise his role as forensic entomologist Gil Grissom. Plus, Jorja Fox will be back as Sara Sidle, a Crime Lab investigator and Grissom’s wife. Original series star Wallace Langham will also return as David Hodges.
Paula Newsome, Matt Lauria, Mel Rodriguez, and Mandeep Dhillon will also star in CSI: Vegas.
“We are thrilled to welcome the next generation of forensic criminalists to the CSI brand and unite them with the legendary characters from the past who we still love, including the extraordinary Billy Petersen and Jorja Fox,” said Kelly Kahl, president of CBS Entertainment, in a statement. “Crimefighting technology has advanced dramatically over the last several years, and combined with classic CSI storytelling, we can’t wait to watch this new CSI team do what they do best: follow the evidence.”
‘CSI: Vegas’ is the fifth series in the ‘CSI’ franchise
The original CSI aired for 15 seasons and spawned three spinoffs. CSI: Miami premiered in 2002 and aired through 2012; CSI: New York aired from 2004 to 2013; and CSI: Cyber aired from 2014 to 2016. Between 2006 and 2016, CSI was the most-watched drama series franchise in the world, according to CBS.
“I’m excited to be bringing back the CSI franchise to all our fans who have been so loyal to us for all these years,” executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer said in a statement. “And to be back in Las Vegas where it all started over 20 years ago makes it even more special. We’ve enjoyed working on this project with CBS and look forward to welcoming back Billy, Jorja, and Wallace as they join a new group of talented actors in CSI: Vegas.”
Where to stream ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’
The CSI sequel won’t air until sometime later in 2021 or 2022. However, fans can still get their crime scene fix by bingeing the original show. All episodes of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation are currently streaming on Hulu, along with all 10 seasons of CSI: Miami. Episodes of CSI: New York and CSI: Cyber are available for purchase on Amazon Prime Video and iTunes.
