[Spoiler alert: CSI: Vegas Season 1 Episode 3 spoiler ahead.]

Something is wrong with Gil Grissom on ‘CSI: Vegas’

“Under the Skin” starts with a woman jogging down the strip. A woman who she’s meeting texts her but then is murdered. The jogger sees two people running down an alley, and she hides. The body of the woman is found in a pool not too far away.

The jogger said her boss, Sandra King (Lauren Shaw), was meeting her to run together before she was killed. Joshua Folsom (Matt Lauria) and Allie Rajan (Mandeep Dhillon) notice she has multiple stab wounds in her chest.

Gil wakes up early with Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox). She thinks he has first-day jitters. But it looks like Gil’s ear is bothering him. Maxine Roby (Paula Newsome) later meets with Detective Nora Cross (Kat Foster) from internal affairs. She is the lead on the David Hodges investigation and reveals she might conduct the investigation elsewhere, so it doesn’t appear to be a cover-up.

Gil and Sara work on gathering evidence from the dead dog they found in the last episode. They might pull blood from whoever broke into Hodges’ house off the dog’s tooth. Maxine meets up with them and tells them to avoid the IAB detective. They find from the blood that they’re looking for a man between the ages of 40 and 65, who is of South American descent.

Maxine takes evidence from Sandra’s body with Hugo Ramirez (Mel Rodriguez). She was stabbed with something softer than both. She also scratched her attacker and has a mark on her neck.

Sandra makes games for a living. Maxine, Joshua, and Allie go to check out her job. Allie finds Sandra’s torn badge that probably made the mark on her neck.

Maxine questions a gamer who publicly insulted Sandra in his videos. He admits they got into an argument, but that was it. Suspicious, but when he showed his arms, he didn’t have any scratches from her.

Gil and Sara go to Hodges’ home and find a bloody rock that could be the murder weapon used on the dog. They also found a smudge of concealer on a box. They later think whoever broke in is hiding a skin condition.

Allie finds 3-D printed knives in a dumpster not far from the crime scene. Joshua also uses a camera at an ATM to find a video of a suspect. Ben Miller, who works with Sandra, is seen wearing a hoodie and holding the two knives.

Allie, Joshua, and Sara take a minute to talk. Allie reveals she doesn’t think Hodges is guilty. Joshua thinks Hodges might have done it to look like a “star.” Sara then says, “A bleeding heart and a doubting Thomas? Sounds familiar.” So if all the awkward flirting between Allie and Joshua hasn’t been enough, it looks like Sara is giving the audience a bigger nudge that this should be our new Gil and Sara.

Ben is arrested, but they don’t find scratches on him. Allie and Joshua look for more evidence at the crime scene and find a contact lens. They then notice a man watching them. They chase him and find out he saw the crime and ran. He confirms seeing Ben.

Gil gets a call that he has to move his boat, but later, he realizes he didn’t hear the phone call correctly. Maxine gives Gil and Sara a list of everyone who visited the evidence vault within the last year.

Allie and Joshua have a theory that Ben didn’t do it after all. Someone else made a mask modeled after Ben’s face, then wore colored contacts to frame him. So who killed her?

Ron Kean, who works with Ben and Sandra, is the killer. He has the same walk as the suspect. Maxine also gathered evidence from his hoodie. They then found the burned mask at his mother’s home. Why did he do it? Ron was angry Sandra beat him in a contest in the company. Whoever won got their game idea made.

Gil and Sara narrow down a list of people who possibly broke into Hodges’ home. Gil then reveals that sometimes he gets “land sick,” and it might not go away. She tells him they’ll figure this out together.

The episode ends with a text saying Nora is taking the Hodges case elsewhere. CSI can no longer work on it. Hopefully, they’ll figure out a way around this next week on the CBS show.
