Jason Kidd has been in the NBA for three decades as a player and a coach. He was drafted in 1994 by the Dallas Mavericks, which happens to be the team he coaches today. Kidd also had stints playing for and drawing up plays for the Phoenix Suns, the New York Knicks, and the Brooklyn Nets.

As a player, he won a championship with the Mavs and hopes to add another one as the coach of the team. While he continues his quest to bring Dallas a chip, fans want to know more about Kidd’s life off the court.

Here’s what we know about his family and his wife, Porschla Coleman.

Who Kidd was married to before Coleman

Before Coleman, Kidd was married to his first wife actor and journalist Joumana.

They said “I do” in 1997 and had a tumultuous marriage. In 2001, Kidd was arrested and pleaded guilty to a domestic abuse charge for assaulting Joumana. As part of his sentence, the basketball star was ordered to attend anger management classes for six months. He continued to attend the classes even when that period ended.

After 10 years of marriage, Kidd filed for divorce. He alleged that their marriage was characterized by “intense jealousy, paranoia, and the threat of false domestic abuse claims.” He cited “extreme cruelty” as the reason for their divorce. Joumana then filed a counterclaim against Kidd citing other instances of abuse at his hands.

Their divorce was finalized in 2007.

Coleman has worked as a model

After his marriage to Joumana ended, Kidd began dating Coleman in 2008. Three years later, the two tied the knot on Sept. 10, 2011.

Kidd’s second wife was born in Gulfport, Mississippi, on July 12, 1985. Her father is of Russian and Swedish ancestry while her mother is of African-American descent. In high school, Coleman was scouted by a modeling agency and decided to move to New York after graduation to pursue a career in that field.

“After I graduated, I didn’t go off to school because I knew I was going to New York to start modeling,” she told WLOX. “Life in New York is fun, it’s a lot different than being here in Mississippi. It’s a big change, going up there and taking subways and all that. It’s really fun, it’s exciting.”

Coleman modeled for a number of different brands including Rocawear and Frederick’s of Hollywood. In an interview with Seventeen, she offered some advice for aspiring models, sharing: “It seems like a glamorous life, but the industry has to be looked at as a business. Always be professional even when others are not, be on time, and show that you are serious. Coming from Gulfport, Mississippi, where fashion and modeling are planets away, I fell victim to trying to break into the modeling world through scouting events at pricey hotels.”

How many children Kidd and Coleman have together

Kidd and Coleman have three children together. Their son, Chance, was born in 2010, followed by their daughter, Noah Grace, in 2012, and their youngest, Cooper Anne, was born in 2017.

In addition to their three kiddos, Coleman is also the stepmother to three children T.J. (Trey Jason), Miah, and Jezelle from Kidd’s first marriage to Joumana.
