Superman coming out as bisexual replies from ‘Dancing With the Stars’ actors and more unexpected places
Some casual fans might react with a shock that DC would make Clark Kent gay and ditch Lois Lane. However, some of the giant headlines need some clarifying.
Clark Kent had a son, Jon Kent. Of course, Jon inherited all the fantastic powers of his father and took up the mantle as Superman. Jon Kent is the ‘Superman’ appearing in all the Twitter posts and headlines.
“I knew replacing Clark with another straight white savior could be a real opportunity missed,” writer Tom Taylor told IGN. “Today, Superman, the strongest superhero on the planet, is coming out.”
Feedback on the new direction came from some of the most unlikely places. Arizona senators and professional boxers weighed in on the comic.
Even international Dancing With the Stars actor Gaurav Chopra spoke up about the newly bisexual Superman.
Several fans voiced their support for the move, while others remained hesitant. Some expressed their outrage.
The ‘Dancing With the Stars’ actor cautiously supports Superman’s bisexuality
Fans might not know that Dancing With the Stars works as an international franchise. The show proved popular across the world, airing in over 60 territories.
Indian actor Gaurav Chopra competed in the Georgian edition of Dancing With the Stars. He also has ties to Marvel, as he provides the Hindi dubbing for Chris Hemsworth’s Thor in Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.
Chopra took notice of DC’s announcing Superman as bisexual and approved — cautiously.
“The new Superman is bisexual. Ok,” Chopra tweeted. “I think we are a little off-balance here.”
The Dancing With the Stars actor explains that he supports Superman coming out as bisexual. However, he has reservations on if the move only serves to gain DC publicity.
“We need to normalize things,” Chopra said, “so they aren’t looked down upon, not glorify them. That will tilt it again with new problems.”
Jon Kent represents a new era for the Man of Steel for some
While several notable names disapproved of the move, Chopra remained positive.
Jon Kent officially comes out in Superman: Son of Kal-El #5. While he handles issues on Earth, Clark Kent deals with other problems deep in space.
Many outlets hail the new direction as a whole new era for the Man of Steel. However, Dancing With the Stars actor Chopra cautions that Superman coming out as bisexual should not be used purely as a marketing tool.
The issue writer feels like this does serve as the right move for the character.
“I’ve always said everyone needs heroes, and everyone deserves to see themselves in their heroes,” writer Taylor said IGN.
