Fans of Dancing With the Stars continue to call for Tyra Banks to be replaced as the host of the long-running dance competition show, which is entering its 30th season. This will be Banks’ second run as both the host and executive producer of the series, which pairs ballroom pros and celebrities to see if they can master complicated dance techniques and stay competitive.

‘Dancing With the Stars’ will celebrate a milestone

The series will celebrate a significant milestone upon its September 20, 2021 return. After 30 seasons on ABC, the reality series will reach a benchmark only achieved by a handful of network and cable series. The series would have likely even moved further up the ladder in its total number of seasons had it not switched formats from two seasons a year to one in 2019.

The show, which began in 2005, filmed both a fall and spring season for 27 seasons until radio personality Bobby Bones and pro-Sharna Burgess pulled a shocking upset in their quest for the series’ mirrorball trophy.

Bones and Burgess’s win was deemed one of the most controversial in the history of DWTS due to the alleged flood of votes from the country music community in favor of the radio personality. The duo was the lowest-scoring couple of the 2018 finals, so viewers were shocked when they won. Bobby was considered the people’s champion since it was fan votes that gave them the trophy. However, his win caused the show to retool its voting procedures and implement live voting to stop ballot stuffing from followers of a particular competitor.

Following Bones and Burgess’s win, Dancing With the Stars only aired one season per year of competition.

‘Dancing With the Stars’ shocked fans by firing Tom Bergeron and hiring Tyra Banks as host

Dancing With the Stars shocked longtime viewers by making another major decision in the fate of the series. In 2020, Tyra Banks replaced original DWTS host Tom Bergeron and his co-host Erin Andrews. Bergeron was the original host of the show for 28 seasons before being replaced.

Banks had an uphill battle trying to win viewers over. Many called for former America’s Top Model host to step down from her hosting duties and others begged the series to ask Bergeron to return to his post.

Fans were unhappy with several aspects of the series under Banks’ direction, including her runway walkout, off-the-cuff remarks to the competitors, and how she appeared to cut off judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough, and Bruno Tonioli in their commentary.

Fans reaction has appeared not to have changed regarding Tyra Banks as host

Dancing With the Stars posted a photograph to Instagram of Banks in costume for season 29’s Disney Night, where competitors danced in costume to songs from Disney film classics. In the post’s caption, the show claimed they had a “Minnie” obsession with the former supermodel turned television personality.

Fans continued to call for Banks to step down from her position as host of the ABC series in the comments section of the photograph.

“Except, all of your fans feel the opposite! She needs to go! She is running the show into the ground!” wrote one follower.

“When will she understand the show is NOT about her? Her fashion is ridiculous!!! I think we are stuck with her, but please, Tyra, stop making it all about you!!!!” stated a second viewer.

“Since she hosts the show, it’s not the same …. pls bring back Tom and Erin … they were the perfect match to host the show,” penned a third-social media user.

Banks shared what fans can expect from the new season of Dancing With the Stars in an interview with TV Insider

“There is something beautiful about doing a retrospect when you hit a milestone year. At the same time, there are so many new viewers this season, and a retrospect may not resonate with them. So, if we do one, it would have to be for those diehard fans that have been here forever, but not make it so ‘inside baseball’ where the new people don’t know what the heck is going on,” the host shared.

Dancing With the Stars season 30 will make its official debut on ABC on Monday, September 20 at 8/7c.
