‘Dancing with the Stars’: Jenna Johnson Chmerkovskiy Addresses the ‘Chemistry’ Between Val Chmerkovskiy and Olivia Jade
Dancing with the Stars pro Jenna Johnson Chmerkovskiy often has to deal with rumors being a pro on the ABC competition series. In fact, facing rumors head-on is something she and husband Val Chmerkovskiy are very familiar with. Johnson Chmerkovskiy recently spoke out regarding the allegations about a “romance” between her husband and his DWTS Season 30 partner Olivia Jade. Here’s what she had to say.

Jade, the YouTuber who made headlines for a college admissions scandal, is competing with Chmerkovskiy in season 30 of Dancing with the Stars. When a TikTok user shared a video accusing two DWTS celebrities of flirting on the show’s set, Jade replied to the rumors before they got out of hand. While the post doesn’t outright name Jade and Chmerkovskiy, many TikTok users assume it was about them.
In the original TikTok post, the user says: “This ‘scandal’ might be on the news soon. Story was sent to me.” According to whoever submitted the information, a male dancer “requested his wife not come near his trailer.” They also say the married DWTS couple are “never seen on set together,” and they walked by the male dancer’s trailer one day to hear him and his female dance partner giggling.
Jenna Johnson Chmerkovskiy says people make up ‘toxic narratives’
During an interview with Scrubbing In with Becca Tilley & Tanya Rad podcast, Johnson Chmerkovskiy mentions the rumors surrounding the “romance” between her husband and his DWTS partner. “There was this whole blowup on this TikTok…because I have amazing chemistry with my partner and he has amazing chemistry with his partner,” the dance pro says. In her experience, the people who have that connection do the best on Dancing with the Stars.
“You want to have a great energy about you where people watch and [wonder], ‘Why is that magic?'” Johnson Chmerkovskiy adds. She says there’s a difference in the dances between people who get along and those who don’t. Sometimes, that connection comes across as intimate to viewers.
“Val and I understand our work and we’re just comfortable with it,” Johnson Chmerkovskiy says, adding:
“It’s inevitable for people to paint narratives. It’s not the first time we’ve dealt with this, it’s not going to be the last time, and I hope not because that means we’re doing our job really well.”
In Johnson Chmerkovskiy’s opinion, some people “love to create toxic narratives,” but when they do, she and Val know they’re doing their job “really well.” For the Dancing with the Stars pro, having her relationship talked about in that way can be challenging in the moment, but it’s what they signed up so she’s “just used to it.”
Olivia Jade denounces rumors about a ‘Dancing with the Stars’ romance
Jade denounced the rumors about her and Chmerkovskiy having any romantic connection. “Val and I are not hooking up,” Jade explains in a TikTok video. “We have never hooked up. This is a complete rumor.”
Jade goes on to explain how she and Chmerkovskiy are “genuinely really good friends,” adding:
“I adore his wife. It’s just a dance show and we’re just friends. I don’t know why everything has to be something. I get it if it was true, but it’s not, so let’s end this here.”
