‘Dancing with the Stars’ Season 33 premiere closed with Anna Delvey’s first dance

Thirteen contestants began their quest for a Mirrorball trophy as the Dancing with the Stars season premiere kicked off. Anna Delvey, a convicted con artist and fraudster who posed as an heiress and defrauded hundreds of thousands from her associates, was the last to dance.

Delvey danced a cha cha to Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” alongside partner Ezra Sosa. They generated a score of 18/30.

Carrie Ann Inaba, who has judged every contestant since season 1, shared her thoughts about the energy in the ballroom when Delvey performed. She said, “When you came out on the dance floor, there was a shift in the energy in this room. I just want to say, let’s all just give this a chance because I can imagine that this is scary for you.”

Inaba concluded, “I’m not pro or against that you’ve done, but this is about your dancing here. So let’s all give her this space, please.”

Anna Delvey hopes to reinvent herself once again

Before each celebrity dances, they film video packages where each contestant shares their experiences during practice. They also share some personal tidbits.

Anna Delvey appeared uncertain as to how to explain her situation in a way that didn’t seem offputting. Therefore, she let out a nervous laugh while explaining she’s wearing an ankle bracelet because she was in jail and “it was hard to leave.”

She added, “I reinvented myself many times. This time, I’m going to be a ballroom dancer.”
