Danica Patrick Said She Wanted to Marry Aaron Rodgers Before Breakup
Prior to the news that NFL star Aaron Rodgers and Big Little Lies actor Shailene Woodley are engaged, many fans had thought the quarterback was going to walk down the aisle with another woman.
The Green Bay Packers signal caller and retired NASCAR driver Danica Patrick dated for two years before ending their relationship. Fans are looking back now on what Patrick said about wanting a proposal from Rodgers.
When Danica Patrick and Aaron Rodgers broke up
On July 16, 2020, Patrick’s rep told Page Six that the former race car driver and football player were “no longer together.”
Patrick’s representative did not reveal when they broke up but the last time Rodgers appeared on her Instagram was April 11, 2020, leading many to think it happened in the spring. The photo was from a trip they had taken a month earlier to Peru.
Not long after the announcement that they broke up, rumors circulated that Rodgers was seeing Woodley and that Patrick was devastated because she introduced them.
Patrick said she hoped Rodgers would propose
The news of their split was so surprising because Patrick wasn’t shy about how “fantastic” things were between them and had even been talking about marriage. She told E! News that Rodgers popping the question was something she wanted to happen.
“I mean I would hope that’s the intention,” she said. “Look, there’s no guarantees in life, but as long as you have that intention, that’s what matters, right?”
Patrick also gushed on Jenny McCarthy’s SiriusXM show about hopefully getting a proposal.
Patrick reportedly wanted to start a family with Rodgers
An insider claimed that Patrick had really wanted to start a family with Rodgers but is now looking toward the future and putting the chapter of her life with the athlete behind her.
“[Danica] was in love. She wanted to start a family,” a source told HollywoodLife. “She wanted to get married. That didn’t happen. She has grieved about it but Danica is a tremendously tough woman, and dealing with Aaron is not a part of her future, so she has decided to avoid thinking about him. She is letting the past be the past.”
Patrick has spoken about having children and in 2018 revealed on CNBC’s Power Lunch that she had her eggs frozen.
“Full disclosure… I did IVF treatments, I froze my eggs, hormones, I gained four pounds, and I’m five foot one, so four pounds make a difference,” she stated. “I just decided I needed to try something new.”
Patrick elaborated more on her decision at the time saying, “I was like, ‘Look, I’m gonna take control of my life here, and I don’t know where it’s going, and I’m not married, and I don’t know what the plan is. I just feel like it’s one less concern. It’s like one less thing to think about. And there’s a lot of sh*t to think about. Especially nowadays, when I have, like, five businesses.”
