Daniel Lissing Will Be in ‘When Hope Calls’ Season 2, and Fans Have Some Big Questions
Former When Calls the Heart star Daniel Lissing has joined the season 2 cast of spinoff series When Hope Calls. Many fans of the two shows are delighted that the fan-favorite actor will be back in the When Calls the Heart universe. But his casting has also raised some big questions about what role he’ll play, given that his Jack Thornton character was killed off at the end of When Calls the Heart Season 5.
Daniel Lissing to guest star in ‘When Hope Calls’ Season 2
On Oct. 4, GAC Family announced Lissing would guest star in the two-part When Hope Calls Season 2 premiere, titled When Hope Calls: A Country Christmas. He’ll appear alongside another former When Calls the Heart star, Lori Loughlin, who will reprise her role as Abigail Stanton.
“I’m excited to be invited to participate in the season 2 premiere of When Hope Calls. I’m also very much looking forward to meeting the When Hope Calls team and to be working with my friend Lori again,” Lissing said in a statement to ET.
‘When Calls the Heart’ fans welcome Lissing’s return, but they have questions
Fans of When Calls the Heart and When Hope Calls could barely contain their excitement when they learned of Lissing’s casting. Many fans of the former show feel it hasn’t been the same since his character died in a tragic landslide while on a training mission, leaving behind his wife Elizabeth Thornton (Erin Krakow) and their son, little Jack (Gunnar and Lincoln Taylor).
“Oh my goodness!!! It keeps getting better and better!!!” one person commented on GAC Family’s Instagram post announcing the news.
“Wow! Mind blown again,” another wrote.
But a number of fans also had some big questions about how Lissing would fit into When Hope Calls, given that Jack is dead.
“I don’t get it. I’m so confused. This makes no sense to me,” one wrote on Instagram.
“Isn’t his character dead?” another asked.
Daniel Lissing’s ‘When Hope Calls’ character is being kept secret for now
Fans are understandably eager to know who Lissing will play on When Hope Calls. But they’ll have to wait to find out. GAC Family isn’t revealing any details about his character.
“His role on #WhenHopeCalls hasn’t been revealed yet,” the network’s official Instagram commented in response to fan questions.
Given Jack’s death, some people speculated that the character might return in a dream sequence or flashback in When Hope Calls, or even as a ghost. Others thought Lissing might be playing an entirely new character. A few others even wondered if there was a chance Jack didn’t die after all.
A synopsis for the show’s premiere episodes might provide a clue about Lissing’s return, however. It notes that Abigail will have a profound conversation with a dear friend. It’s possible that Jack is the dear friend and that the two speak to each other in a dream.
“He has to be returning in some sort of dream sequence,” one person argued.
When Hope Calls: A Country Christmas airs Sunday, Dec. 18 at 8 p.m. ET on GAC Family.
