Daniel Radcliffe Has 1 Wish for the New ‘Harry Potter’ Cast
Daniel Radcliffe spent years navigating through stardom after being at the center of the hit Harry Potter franchise. Recently, the actor shared what he hopes to see from the new Harry Potter cast who might experience the same journey in the future.
Daniel Radcliffe’s advice for ‘Harry Potter’ cast
Radcliffe predicted the Harry Potter franchise would be rebooted a few years before the official announcement.
“I’m sure there will be some other version of it,” he said in a 2019 interview with IGN.
But Radcliffe felt the one thing that might’ve been delaying a reboot was the original Harry Potter series itself. Even though it’d been more than a decade since the last Potter film, Radcliffe theorized the original series was still close to many fans’ hearts. Enough time hadn’t passed yet for the wizard series to be retold. But Radcliffe sensed that wouldn’t last for long.
“It will be interesting to see how long those films stay — it feels like there’s a sacredness around them at the moment, but that’ll go, the shine will wear off at some point” he said.
Radcliffe also questioned if this new Harry Potter series would hit theaters, or if it’d be a television series. He received an answer to that question in April of last year, when it was announced that Harry Potter would air on HBO.
The series is set to hit the premium network in 2026. Succession showrunners Francesca Gardiner & Mark Mylod will be leading the reboot. However, there’s not much known about who will actually be starring in the show.
Although the show hasn’t been cast, Radcliffe gave some early advice to his successors.
“Just like, let them be kids still,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “I can’t imagine what it would have been like to do that in the age of social media. We were kind of a little bit before that.”
Daniel Radcliffe doesn’t think he physically needs to pass the torch for ‘Harry Potter’
Radcliffe is looking forward to meeting the next generation Harry Potter stars. But that won’t necessarily mean that he’ll make a cameo in the series. Speaking with Comic Book, Radcliffe assumes that this new series won’t be focused on bringing back the old cast for the show.
“My understanding is that they’re trying to very much start fresh and I’m sure whoever is making them will want to make their own mark on it and probably not want to have to figure out how to get old Harry to cameo in this somewhere,” he said.
So Radcliffe seems open to the idea of a Harry Potter cameo, but it isn’t something that he’s pursuing.
“So I’m definitely not seeking it out in any way,” he said. “But I do wish them, obviously, all the luck in the world and I’m very excited to have that torch passed. But I don’t think it needs me to physically pass it.”
The ‘Harry Potter’ character Daniel Radcliffe once wanted to play in a remake
More than a decade ago, there was one character Radcliffe was interested in playing in a potential reboot.
“I’ve been kind of thinking who I’d like to play in the inevitable remakes, and I’ve decided I’d quite like to play James Potter,” Radcliffe once said on The Dave Gorman Show (via Digital Spy). “Just play my dad, nice two or three days work, you know. Yeah, that would be nice.”
It was noted that Radcliffe further joked about playing both Sirius Black and Dumbledore. But he quipped that all depended on how long the reboot would take to get made.
